Quick Overview: German-engineered French press with heat-resistant glass and stainless steel filter, backed by a 20-year warranty—choose 0.6L or 1L capacity.

Gefu Diego Stainless Steel Cafetiere

The Gefu Diego combines traditional French press brewing with German precision engineering. This cafetiere uses the classic immersion method: coarsely ground coffee steeps directly in hot water before being filtered by the stainless steel plunger mechanism. The result is full-bodied, aromatic coffee without paper filters or electrical equipment.

Built from heat-resistant glass and stainless steel components, the Diego is designed for daily use and backed by Gefu's exceptional 20-year warranty. The glass carafe safely handles boiling water, whilst the convenient spout allows you to pour directly into cups without removing the lid.

Key features:

  • Versatile brewing: Suitable for both coffee and loose leaf tea
  • Two capacity options: 0.6L (4-5 cups) or 1L (6-8 cups)
  • Heat-resistant glass: Designed to safely handle boiling water
  • Stainless steel components: Durable lid and filter mechanism
  • Convenient spout: Pour without removing the lid
  • Dishwasher safe: All components including glass carafe
  • 20-year warranty: Exceptional manufacturer guarantee reflecting German build quality

Suitable for anyone who appreciates full-bodied coffee without the need for electricity or paper filters, households wanting a reliable brewing method, or tea drinkers who prefer loose leaf varieties.

What Customers Ask About Gefu Diego Cafetiere

Yes, the Diego works equally well for brewing loose leaf tea. The same plunger mechanism that filters coffee grounds will keep tea leaves at the bottom of the carafe.

The 0.6L makes approximately 4-5 cups of coffee, whilst the 1L makes approximately 6-8 cups, depending on your preferred cup size. Standard coffee mugs hold around 120-150ml.

The 0.6L suits individuals or couples, making 4-5 cups per brew. The 1L is better for families or offices, making 6-8 cups. Consider how much coffee you typically drink in one sitting and whether you prefer brewing multiple times or having a larger batch available.

Yes, the glass carafe is designed to be heat resistant and can safely handle boiling water for brewing coffee or tea.

Yes, the entire French press is dishwasher safe. However, the glass carafe is fragile, so take care when loading and unloading from the dishwasher.

Use a coarse grind for French press coffee. Fine grounds can slip through the metal filter and make your coffee gritty. If you're buying pre-ground coffee, look for 'cafetière' or 'French press' grind on the packaging.

Whilst the glass is heat resistant, it is fragile. Avoid thermal shock by not plunging a hot carafe into cold water - let it heat and cool down naturally. Handle with care during cleaning and storage.

Four minutes is the standard brewing time for French press coffee. Place the lid on with the plunger raised, wait 4 minutes, then slowly press the plunger down. Adjust slightly based on your taste preference and the roast level.

Care & Use Instructions

How to brew coffee: Place coarsely ground coffee in the bottom of the carafe (approximately 7-8g per 100ml of water). Pour hot water just off the boil over the grounds and stir gently. Place the lid on with the plunger raised and let steep for 4 minutes. Slowly press the plunger down to trap grounds at the bottom, then pour through the spout.

Daily cleaning: The French press is dishwasher safe. If hand washing, disassemble the plunger mechanism and clean all components thoroughly. Coffee oils can build up over time and affect flavour, so ensure the filter mesh is cleaned between the layers.

Deep cleaning: Periodically soak the plunger mechanism in warm water with washing-up liquid to remove trapped oils. Use a soft brush to clean between the mesh layers of the filter.

Avoid: Using fine coffee grounds (they'll slip through the filter), placing a hot carafe directly on cold surfaces (thermal shock risk), using metal utensils to stir (can scratch or crack the glass), forcing the plunger down too quickly (can cause grounds to escape the filter).

Glass care: The glass carafe is the most fragile component. Handle with care during cleaning and storage. Take particular care when loading into the dishwasher to avoid knocking against other items.

Gefu is known for precision manufacturing and quality materials. The 20-year warranty reflects their confidence in durability - most cafetieres come with 1-2 year warranties. German engineering typically emphasises longevity and consistent performance.

A good starting ratio is 7-8g of ground coffee per 100ml of water. For the 0.6L model, use approximately 42-48g of coffee. For the 1L model, use approximately 70-80g. Adjust to taste - some prefer stronger or weaker coffee.

Yes, though the plunger may not fully press down on smaller amounts. The brewing method still works - just use the appropriate coffee-to-water ratio for the amount you're making.
