Care

  • Before first use: Remove all labels and packaging, then wash in warm, soapy water, rinse and dry thoroughly.
  • Cooking: Use low to medium heat, even for frying and searing, and let it heat up gradually. Use the hob ring closest in size to the base, and lift it on and off glass hobs rather than sliding it. Always use oven gloves, as the handles get hot.
  • Utensils: Silicone, wooden or heat-resistant plastic utensils are best for protecting the enamel.
  • Cleaning: Always wash by hand. Let it cool first, then soak any stuck-on food in warm, soapy water for 15 to 20 minutes. Avoid abrasive cleaners and scourers, and dry thoroughly before storing.

Questions and Answers

Q: How do I build up the patina?
A: Use it regularly and clean it with water only. Le Creuset say this lets the patina develop, so food releases more easily over time.

Q: How close to the grill can it go?
A: Leave at least 5cm between the grill and the top rim of the skillet. Le Creuset recommend this gap for all their cast iron used under a grill.

Q: Can I use it on a barbecue or in a pizza oven?
A: No. Le Creuset advise against barbecues, open fires and pizza ovens, because the uncontrolled heat can seriously damage cast iron. Keep it to the hob and oven.

Q: Can I store leftovers in it?
A: Yes. The enamel is non-porous, so it's fine for keeping raw or cooked food in the fridge. Let it cool to room temperature first, and make sure your fridge shelf can take the weight.
