In 1958, Claus J.Riedel created the world's first 'wine-friendly' glasses with the Sommeliers Series. Georg J. Riedel later developed the series by adapting each shape to enhance specific varieties of grape. This year, CEO Maximilian Riedel has taken the next step with the release of Sommeliers Superleggero, saying "Drawing on 60 years of wine experience and expertise, the new Sommeliers Superleggero Series is designed to carry the charm of a handmade glass with added superior lightness."
Superleggero means 'super light' and that is exactly what these glasses are - a lighter version of the Sommeliers glasses. They are mouth blown from lead free crystal and the stems have been lengthened to create a slimmer aesthetic.
The Sommeliers Superleggero Hermitage/Syrah Glass is suitable for Amarone, Barbera, Blaufrankisch, Cahors, Carignan, Carmenere, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Cornas, Cote Rotie, Cotes di Ventoux, Cotes du Roussillon, Crozes Hermitage, Grenache, Hermitage (red), Madiran, Malbec, Mourvedre, Norton, Petite Sirah, Pinotage, Priorato, Shiraz, St. Joseph, Syrah, Tannat and Zweigelt.
