The Smart Oven Air Fryer is a 22L countertop oven that combines 10 cooking functions with Element iQ smart algorithms, which direct power to the heating elements that need it most for each cooking technique. Air Fry uses higher temperatures and super convection for maximum airflow, producing crispy results without the limitations of a standalone air fryer and at a capacity that works for family-sized portions. PID temperature control with digital sensing eliminates cold spots across the cooking cavity, and convection can reduce cooking time by up to 30% compared to conventional heat. The 22L capacity handles 6 slices of toast, a 30cm pizza, a whole chicken, or a 9-cup muffin tray, and the included accessories cover air frying, grilling, roasting, and pizza without needing additional purchases.

FEATURES

Element iQ smart heating system: Smart algorithms direct power to the right heating elements at the right time, creating the ideal cooking environment for each of the 10 cooking functions automatically.

Super convection air fry: Higher temperatures combined with maximised airflow deliver crispy, evenly cooked air fried results, with convection capable of reducing cooking time by up to 30% compared to conventional heat.

PID temperature control with digital sensing: Precise digital temperature control eliminates cold spots and reduces temperature overshoot for stable, even cooking across the full 50 to 230°C range.

10 preset cooking functions: Toast, crumpet, bake, roast, grill, pizza, air fry, reheat, warm, and slow cook are all accessible via the LCD display, with independent heating elements and preset rack positions for each function.

22L capacity with oven light: Handles up to 6 slices of toast, a 30cm pizza, a whole chicken, or a 9-cup muffin tray; an integrated oven light turns on automatically at the end of each cycle and can be activated at any time to check progress.

CARE AND USE

After each use: Allow the oven to cool fully before cleaning. Wipe the interior with a damp cloth to remove grease and food residue. Clean the door glass with a soft damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners on the interior surfaces.

Cleaning the accessories: The air fry basket, roasting pan, pizza pan, wire rack, and grilling rack should be washed after each use. Check the manual for dishwasher compatibility for each accessory. Hand washing with warm soapy water is gentler on non-stick coatings.

Cleaning the crumb tray: The crumb tray should be removed and emptied regularly to prevent grease and food debris from building up on the heating elements. Wipe clean with a damp cloth and dry before replacing.

What to avoid: Do not immerse the oven in water. Do not use metal scourers on the interior, door, or non-stick accessories. Do not cover the interior with foil in a way that blocks airflow, particularly during air fry or convection cooking. Do not place flammable materials near or on top of the oven during use.

IN OUR EXPERIENCE

Air frying is really super convection at high temperature. An air fryer works by circulating very hot air rapidly around food at close range. The Smart Oven Air Fryer's super convection mode does the same thing across a larger cavity, which means you can cook bigger batches without sacrificing crispness. Understanding this makes it easier to adapt standard air fryer recipes.

PID temperature control matters more than the maximum temperature. Many ovens overshoot their set temperature before settling, which can burn the outside of food before the inside is cooked. PID control actively monitors and corrects temperature in real time, which means the oven stays closer to the set temperature throughout the cook rather than swinging above and below it.

Rack position changes the result as much as temperature does. Heat distribution in a countertop oven varies significantly by rack position. The top position is closer to the upper elements and grills more aggressively; the lower position suits longer, gentler cooks. The Smart Oven's preset rack positions for each function take this into account, but understanding the principle helps when you are adapting recipes.

Slow cook in a countertop oven works differently from a dedicated slow cooker. The slow cook function operates at low temperatures for extended periods, similar to a slow cooker, but in a dry heat environment rather than a moist one. This suits braises and casseroles in covered dishes that retain their own moisture, but results will differ from a traditional slow cooker for recipes that rely on steam build-up.

A smaller cavity is more energy-efficient for everyday cooking. A built-in oven has to heat a much larger volume of air to reach cooking temperature, most of which is wasted space for smaller meals. A 22L countertop oven heats only the space you are actually using, which is why Sage's testing suggests it uses meaningfully less energy for comparable tasks. For households that rarely fill a full-size oven, a countertop oven often makes more practical sense.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Can this replace a standalone air fryer?
For most households, yes. The Smart Oven Air Fryer has a dedicated air fry function with super convection and higher temperatures that produce crispy results comparable to a standalone unit, and at 22L it handles larger portions than most dedicated air fryers. It also offers 9 additional cooking functions, so it covers considerably more ground than a single-purpose appliance.

What does Element iQ actually do?
Element iQ uses smart algorithms to monitor the cooking environment and direct power to the specific heating elements needed for each function and each stage of the cook. Rather than simply switching all elements on, it adjusts which elements are active and at what power level to create the most appropriate heat distribution for the selected cooking technique.

What accessories are included?
The Smart Oven Air Fryer comes with an air fry basket, an enamel roasting pan, a 30cm non-stick pizza pan, a wire rack, and a grilling rack. These cover the main cooking functions without needing to buy additional accessories separately.

How does it compare to using a built-in oven?
Based on Sage's internal benchmark testing as of November 2022, the Smart Oven Air Fryer uses up to 35% less power than a built-in oven. The smaller cavity also means it reaches cooking temperature more quickly. For everyday cooking tasks involving smaller quantities, a countertop oven of this type is generally more energy-efficient than running a full-size built-in oven.
