Quick Overview: Spiegelau Definition Digestive Glasses (set of 2) - 136ml machine-made crystal glass with a swirl-friendly bowl and aroma-concentrating rim, designed for fine spirits and digestifs.

Spiegelau Definition Digestive Glasses

The Spiegelau Definition Digestive Glasses are a set of 2 machine-made crystal glasses designed to present fine spirits at their best. Introduced in 2022, the Definition collection builds on two earlier Spiegelau ranges - the Willsberger (1982) and Hybrid (2011) - using proprietary manufacturing technology to produce glasses that are notably thin and light whilst maintaining excellent consistency between pieces.

The bowl is shaped to allow the drink to be gently swirled, helping to release aromas and flavour compounds. The narrowing rim then concentrates those scents and directs them towards the nose, which may enhance the sensory experience of spirits where aroma is as important as taste. At 136ml capacity and 218mm in height, this is a well-proportioned glass suited to measured pours of quality digestifs.

  • Aroma-concentrating rim: Narrow top focuses spirit aromas for a more immersive tasting experience
  • Swirl-friendly bowl: Shaped to allow gentle agitation and release of aromas
  • Thin, lightweight crystal: Machine-made with proprietary technology for a delicate feel and excellent balance in hand
  • Dishwasher safe: Tested to EN 12875 standards; capable of withstanding 1,000 wash cycles under good operating conditions
  • Set of 2: Both glasses are included at the price shown

These glasses are well suited to anyone who takes care over the ritual of serving and tasting fine spirits, particularly where aroma is a key part of the experience.

What Customers Ask About the Spiegelau Definition Digestive Glasses

Spiegelau designed the Definition Digestive Glass to present fine spirits at their best. The bowl allows gentle swirling to release aromas, whilst the narrow rim concentrates those scents for a more focused tasting experience. They are well suited to after-dinner spirits and digestifs where aroma plays an important role alongside flavour.

The bowl is shaped to allow gentle swirling, which helps release aromas and flavour compounds from the spirit. As those aromas rise, the narrowing rim concentrates and channels them towards the nose rather than allowing them to disperse into the air. This design may enhance the tasting experience for complex spirits where aroma is significant - the same principle used in wine glasses adapted for spirits service.

This product is sold as a set of 2 glasses. The price shown is for both glasses together.

Yes. The Definition Digestive Glasses are dishwasher safe and have been tested to EN 12875 standards, with clarity and shine maintained over 1,000 wash cycles under good operating conditions. Use a low-temperature programme (50-55°C), ensure glasses do not touch each other or other items, and open the dishwasher door after the cycle to let moisture escape. Handwashing is always an option if you prefer to preserve the glass surface over the long term.

The Definition range uses proprietary machine-made technology to produce notably thin, light crystal glass. Compared to heavier spirits glasses, these feel more delicate in hand and may offer a more refined sensory experience - the thinner rim can make the glass less noticeable when drinking. The trade-off is that thinner glass requires a little more care in handling and washing. If you prefer a more robust everyday option, contact us on 01737 222996 and we can suggest alternatives.

Care & Use Instructions

Dishwasher use: Load glasses with enough space between them so they do not touch each other, other glasses, or metal items such as utensils. Use the top rack and any dedicated glass holder if your dishwasher has one. Select a low-temperature programme at 50-55°C, or a specialist glassware programme if available. Do not overdose detergent or rinse aid - always keep the dishwasher topped up with rinse aid and salt matched to your local water hardness. After the cycle, open the door to let steam escape rather than allowing it to settle on the glass. Do not wash alongside aluminium items, as chemical reactions between aluminium and crystal glass can cause irreversible corrosion.

Handwashing: Wash gently under warm (not hot or boiling) water with a small amount of mild washing-up liquid. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Use two microfibre polishing cloths for drying - not a tea towel, which can scratch the surface. When drying, hold the glass under the bowl with one hand and polish with the other; never hold the base and bowl at the same time, as this can put stress on the stem.

Polishing: Hold the bowl in one hand using a dry microfibre cloth and use a second cloth to polish the inside and outside carefully. For water spots, add a small amount of white vinegar or citric acid to the final rinse water to dissolve limescale deposits. Note that glass corrosion - where the glass structure itself is damaged - cannot be reversed, so correct washing practice from the outset is important.

Storage: Store upright in a clean, dry location away from strongly scented items, as crystal glass can absorb surrounding odours which may affect the aroma of spirits when the glass is next used. Never stack glasses or store them rim-down. Rinse glasses promptly after use so that spirit residues do not sit on the surface for extended periods.

Microfibre cloths: Wash polishing cloths at 60°C with odourless soap. Do not use fabric softener, and do not tumble dry.

Clouding can have two causes. Limescale or detergent deposits can usually be removed by rinsing with a mild acid such as white vinegar or citric acid solution. Glass corrosion - where the glass structure itself is affected, appearing as a white coating - unfortunately cannot be reversed. Correct dishwasher settings (temperature, rinse aid levels, and avoiding aluminium items in the same wash) help prevent corrosion from occurring in the first place.
