Sage: The Barista Pro
The Sage Barista Pro is a semi-automatic espresso machine built around the four things that make great espresso: precise dosing, stable temperature, correct pressure, and properly textured milk. The integrated conical burr grinder delivers fresh grounds for every shot, and the ThermoJet heating system is ready in three seconds from cold. It rewards the time you put into learning it, and that is also the point of buying it. Customers who commit to developing their technique consistently tell us it is the best thing they have bought for their kitchen.
- Integrated conical burr grinder: Hardened steel burrs with 30 precision grind settings deliver fresh-ground coffee on demand, with automatic dose control for consistent 19-22g extractions.
- ThermoJet heating system: Reaches extraction temperature in 3 seconds and switches to steam mode in 1 second, using less energy than traditional thermoblock systems.
- 9-bar extraction with pre-infusion: Low pressure pre-infusion gently expands the coffee bed before full 9-bar pressure builds, maximising flavour extraction and crema.
- Manual steam wand: Produces barista-quality microfoam with full control over pressure and technique, suitable for lattes, flat whites, and latte art.
- LCD interface with volumetric control: Displays shot time, temperature, and settings, with programmable one and two cup doses for consistent results every time.
What Customers Ask About This Product
I've never made espresso before. Is this too advanced for a beginner?
It has a learning curve, but that is manageable rather than steep. The LCD guides you through each step, volumetric control handles shot timing, and the Razor tool ensures correct dosing. Sage also offers setup guidance through the BILT app. Most customers are making coffee they are genuinely pleased with within the first week.
How much cleaning and maintenance does it need day to day?
Daily upkeep is straightforward: empty the drip tray when the Empty Me indicator appears, purge and wipe the steam wand after use, and rinse the portafilter. The machine prompts you for deeper cleaning with automatic Clean Me alerts. The included ClaroSwiss water filter eliminates the need to descale for three months at a time.
The bean hopper holds 250g. Is that enough?
For most households brewing two to four shots a day, 250g lasts around a week. The hopper is removable, which makes refilling easy and also lets you swap between different beans. Smaller capacity actually encourages fresher rotation, which is better for flavour.
Is this worth the extra cost compared to cheaper espresso machines?
Budget machines typically lack an integrated grinder, use slower thermoblock heating, and cannot produce true microfoam. The Barista Pro's PID temperature control, 9-bar extraction, and 3-second heat-up time deliver results that entry-level machines cannot match. If you are making two coffees a day, the saving on café visits covers the cost within a few months.
In our experience...
The machine handles the technical parts. Temperature, pressure, and dosing are all taken care of. What you develop over time is a feel for grind size and milk texture. Most customers are making genuinely good espresso within a week of bringing one home.
Fresh beans make more difference than most people expect. The integrated grinder is one of the most valuable parts of this machine. Pre-ground coffee loses its best flavours within minutes of grinding. Using quality fresh beans and grinding them to order makes an immediate and noticeable difference to the cup.
Grind size is the first thing to learn. If your espresso tastes sour or thin, grind finer. If it tastes bitter or takes too long to pour, grind coarser. Getting this right accounts for most of the improvement people see in their first few weeks.
It pays for itself faster than most people expect. Two café-quality flat whites a day at current prices adds up quickly. Customers who commit to home espresso regularly tell us the machine covered its cost within a few months.

Care & Use Instructions
Before first use: Remove all packaging and protective films. Install the ClaroSwiss water filter in the water tank following the included instructions. Fill the tank with fresh water and run several blank shots through the group head to flush the system. Prime the grinder by running it empty for a few seconds.
Daily maintenance: Empty the drip tray when the Empty Me indicator floats up. After steaming milk, purge the steam wand and wipe immediately with a damp cloth. Remove and rinse the portafilter after each use. The dry puck feature extracts excess water from spent grounds, making disposal cleaner.
Weekly cleaning: Run the automatic Clean Me cycle when prompted. Remove and wash the drip tray, water tank, and milk jug, all of which are dishwasher safe. Wipe down exterior surfaces with a damp cloth and use the included brush to clean the group head and portafilter baskets.
Monthly maintenance: Remove the upper and lower burrs from the grinder for cleaning according to the instruction manual. Deep clean the steam wand using the included cleaning tool. Run a cleaning tablet through the system using the deep clean programme.
Every 3 months: Replace the ClaroSwiss water filter. Test water hardness with the included strip if you notice any performance changes. If you are not using the water filter, run the descaling programme according to the manual.
For best results: Use fresh quality beans stored in an airtight container. Adjust grind size if extraction is too fast (grind finer) or too slow (grind coarser). Aim for 25 to 30 second extraction times. Preheat cups on the warming tray and purge the group head briefly before locking in the portafilter.
