What Customers Ask About Le Creuset Pet Food Storage Jar

The 2.3-litre capacity holds approximately 1.5-2kg of dry kibble, depending on kibble size and shape. This typically provides a week's supply for a small to medium dog, or two to three weeks for a cat. For larger dogs eating more than 300g daily, you may need to refill frequently. The jar works well for treat storage or as a convenient daily portion container that you refill from larger bags.

The silicone seal creates an airtight closure that helps protect dry food from moisture and air exposure, which can make kibble go stale. It's effective for maintaining freshness over several weeks. However, extremely humid conditions may still affect food over time. The seal works best when you ensure it's properly seated each time you close the jar. Not suitable for wet pet food.

The enamel glaze is designed to resist odour absorption. Le Creuset's high-temperature firing process creates a non-porous surface that shouldn't retain food smells with normal use and regular cleaning. If odours develop, washing in the dishwasher or hand washing with hot soapy water typically removes them. The glaze is considerably more odour-resistant than plastic storage containers.

The scoop is designed for portioning pet food into bowls. The size should suit most feeding portions, though very large dogs requiring 500g+ per meal might need two scoops. The scoop stores inside or alongside the jar. It's dishwasher safe like the jar itself, making cleaning straightforward.

This jar is designed for storing dry pet food at room temperature. The stoneware can tolerate refrigeration if needed, but condensation may form when you remove it, potentially affecting food freshness. For most dry pet food, room temperature storage in a cool, dry location with the silicone seal works best. Avoid direct sunlight or very warm areas.

Stoneware offers better odour resistance and doesn't absorb smells the way plastic can over time. It's more durable and chip-resistant than most plastic containers, and considerably heavier which prevents pets knocking it over. The main trade-offs are weight (stoneware is heavy) and price (more expensive than plastic). For long-term use and aesthetic appeal, stoneware has advantages; for portability or budget, plastic may be more practical.

Care & Use Instructions

Before first use: Remove all packaging and labels. Wash the jar, lid and scoop in hot soapy water or run through the dishwasher, rinse thoroughly, and dry completely. Ensure the silicone seal is properly seated in the lid.

Filling the jar: Pour dry pet food or treats into the jar, leaving a small gap at the top for easy scooping. Don't overfill as this makes it difficult to use the scoop. Only use for dry pet food - not suitable for wet food which requires refrigeration.

Creating an airtight seal: Place the lid on the jar and press down firmly to ensure the silicone seal makes contact all around the rim. Check that it's properly seated each time you close the jar. A proper seal helps maintain food freshness by keeping out moisture and air.

Storage location: Store in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and heat sources. A kitchen cupboard, utility room, or pantry works well. The stoneware is heavy and stable, but ensure it's on a secure surface where pets can't knock it over.

Using the scoop: The matching scoop is designed for portioning food into your pet's bowl. Wash the scoop regularly in the dishwasher or by hand with hot soapy water. The scoop can be stored inside the jar or separately.

Regular cleaning: Wash the jar every few weeks when you refill it, or more frequently if needed. Both the jar and scoop are dishwasher safe. For hand washing, use hot soapy water and a soft cloth or non-abrasive sponge. Pay particular attention to cleaning the rim where the seal sits.

Cleaning the silicone seal: Remove the seal periodically and wash separately in hot soapy water to prevent any residue build-up. Ensure it's completely dry before replacing. Check the seal occasionally for wear and replace if it becomes damaged or loses flexibility.

Removing odours: If food odours develop, wash thoroughly with hot soapy water or run through the dishwasher. For persistent smells, make a paste with bicarbonate of soda and water, apply to the interior, leave for 30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. The enamel glaze typically resists odour absorption better than plastic.

Avoid: Don't use in microwave or oven. Don't store wet pet food. Avoid abrasive scourers which may scratch the glaze over time. Don't use the jar for human food after using it for pet food without thorough cleaning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Return it anyway. Our no quibble guarantee covers used items - if it doesn't do what you wanted, we'll refund you. This applies even after you've stored pet food in it. We've offered this guarantee since 1972.

Le Creuset's manufacturer's guarantee covers manufacturing defects for 10 years from date of purchase. This includes issues with the glaze, structural defects in the stoneware, or problems with the firing. It doesn't cover accidental damage, misuse, wear to the silicone seal, or normal wear and tear. Keep your proof of purchase. Claims go through us, and we handle the process with Le Creuset on your behalf.

Yes, this makes a thoughtful gift for pet owners who appreciate quality products. It's particularly suitable for people who've recently got a new pet, moved house, or who enjoy coordinated kitchen aesthetics. The jar comes in Le Creuset packaging. We can include gift receipts upon request. At £57.00 (RRP £62) it represents good value for a Le Creuset piece.

Replacement scoops may be available from Le Creuset directly. Contact us and we can help you source a replacement or suggest suitable alternatives. The scoop is designed to match but a standard pet food scoop would also work functionally.

Yes. If you've seen this identical Le Creuset Pet Food Storage Jar cheaper elsewhere, tell us where. If it's available with our competitor on the day you contact us, we'll match the price. The item must be identical (same size and colour) and the competitor must be a UK retailer with physical stores.

Yes, stoneware is naturally heavy, and when filled with 2kg of pet food the jar becomes quite substantial. This weight provides stability and prevents pets from knocking it over, but it's not easily portable when full. If you need to move filled food containers frequently, plastic might be more practical. For stable countertop or cupboard storage, the weight is an advantage.

Le Creuset offers a range of pet accessories including feeding bowls in matching colours. The Shell Pink, Meringue and Cerise shades also appear across various Le Creuset kitchen ranges, so you can coordinate your pet storage with your cookware if desired. Check our Le Creuset section for other available pieces.
