La Cafetière Monaco Cafetiere
The Monaco cafetiere brings La Cafetière's trademark quality to your daily coffee ritual. Its fine mesh filter system traps grounds whilst allowing the natural coffee oils to flow through - these oils carry much of coffee's flavour and are lost in paper filter methods. Available in 3-cup and 8-cup capacities, each finished in your choice of grey or blue.
Built from rust-resistant stainless steel with a glass beaker, the Monaco is designed for longevity. The plunger features La Cafetière's embossed branding and operates smoothly through the filter mechanism. A spare mesh filter is included - useful both as a backup and for thorough cleaning routines.
Key features:
- Fine mesh filter system: Traps grounds, allows natural oils through
- Spare filter included: Extends useable life and aids maintenance
- Disassembles completely: Plunger mechanism separates for thorough cleaning
- Dishwasher-safe beaker: Glass component only (hand wash frame and plunger)
- Two size options: 3-cup (approximately 350ml) or 8-cup (approximately 1 litre)
- 10-year guarantee: Manufacturer warranty against defects
Suitable for anyone who prefers full-bodied coffee with natural oils intact, or households requiring reliable equipment for daily use.
What Customers Ask About La Cafetière Monaco Cafetiere
What's the difference between the 3-cup and 8-cup versions?
The 8-cup measures 17cm wide × 23.4cm tall and weighs 752g, whilst the 3-cup measures 13.5cm wide × 18.2cm tall and weighs 403g. Both feature the same fine mesh filter system and construction quality. Choose based on how much coffee you typically brew - the '3-cup' makes approximately 350ml, and the '8-cup' makes approximately 1 litre.
Will the grey or blue colour fade over time?
The colour finish is applied to the stainless steel frame. With proper care (hand washing the frame, avoiding abrasive cleaners), the colour should remain intact. The glass beaker itself is clear and unaffected by dishwasher use.
Can I replace the glass beaker if it breaks?
Yes, La Cafetière typically offers replacement glass beakers for their cafetieres. Contact us and we can help source the correct replacement part for your Monaco model.
How fine is the mesh filter?
La Cafetière's fine mesh filter is designed to trap grounds whilst allowing the natural coffee oils through. You may notice some very fine sediment at the bottom of your cup - this is normal with cafetiere brewing and indicates the oils are passing through correctly.
Why does it come with a spare filter?
The mesh filter is the component most likely to need replacement over the cafetiere's lifetime. Having a spare means you can continue using your cafetiere if the first filter wears out, and it's useful to have a backup whilst cleaning the primary filter thoroughly.
What does 'disassembles for easy clean' mean?
The plunger mechanism separates into its component parts - the rod, the filter assembly, and the base. This allows you to clean between the mesh layers and remove trapped coffee oils that would otherwise build up and affect taste.
Is the entire cafetiere dishwasher safe?
Only the glass beaker is dishwasher safe. The stainless steel frame and plunger mechanism should be hand washed to preserve the colour finish and ensure the filter mechanism continues operating smoothly.

Care & Use Instructions
Before first use: Wash all components in warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly. Disassemble the plunger mechanism to ensure no manufacturing residue remains.
Daily cleaning: Rinse the glass beaker and plunger immediately after use to prevent coffee oils from drying. The glass beaker can go in the dishwasher. Hand wash the stainless steel frame and plunger mechanism with washing-up liquid and warm water - avoid abrasive scourers that might damage the colour finish.
Deep cleaning: Disassemble the plunger mechanism weekly (or more frequently if you brew coffee daily). Soak the filter components in warm water with washing-up liquid, then use a soft brush to clean between the mesh layers. Ensure all parts are completely dry before reassembling.
Avoid: Putting the coloured frame or plunger mechanism in the dishwasher. Using bleach or harsh chemicals on any component. Forcing the plunger if it meets resistance (this suggests grounds are blocking the filter).
Storage: Store with the plunger raised to prevent the mesh filter being compressed when not in use. Ensure all components are dry before storing to prevent water marks on the glass.

Frequently Asked Questions
What if I've used it and don't like it?
Return it anyway. Our no quibble guarantee covers used items - if it doesn't do what you wanted, we'll refund you. This applies even after you've brewed coffee with it.
How does the Half-Price Replacement guarantee work?
Valid for 2 years from purchase date. If you accidentally break this item, we'll replace it at half price with proof of purchase and evidence of breakage. Photos of the damage are acceptable.
Does the 10-year guarantee cover accidental breakage?
The manufacturer's 10-year guarantee covers manufacturing defects and material faults. Accidental damage is covered by our Half-Price Replacement policy for the first 2 years. After 2 years, we can still help source replacement parts at standard pricing.
How long does delivery take?
Standard delivery to mainland UK addresses can take up to 7 working days, but is usually 3-4, and is free for orders over £49. Next day delivery may be available for £9.95 on orders placed before 1pm Monday to Thursday, depending on your location and our stock levels. You can also collect from our shops in Cobham or Reigate, or our warehouse in Redhill.
How do I clean the filter properly?
Disassemble the plunger mechanism and rinse all components under running water immediately after use. For deeper cleaning, soak the filter in warm water with washing-up liquid, then use a soft brush to clean between the mesh layers. Ensure it's completely dry before reassembling.
Can I use this for tea as well as coffee?
Yes, the Monaco works for loose leaf tea. However, the mesh filter is designed for coffee grounds rather than fine tea leaves, so you may find smaller tea particles pass through. A separate tea infuser might be more effective for very fine teas.
How long should I brew coffee in a cafetiere?
Typically 4 minutes for medium roast coffee with medium grind. Lighter roasts may benefit from slightly longer (4-5 minutes), whilst darker roasts can be shorter (3-4 minutes). Adjust to your taste preference.
What grind size should I use?
Medium-coarse grind works best for cafetiere brewing. Too fine and you'll get sediment in your cup; too coarse and the extraction will be weak. If you're buying pre-ground coffee, look for 'cafetiere grind' or 'coarse grind' on the packaging.
