Healthy eating for them, (wishful thinking?) and better wine for you

Firstly, if your child is off to Uni this September, and isn’t in halls, then maybe he or she will be fending for themselves foodwise. Your fear may well be that the usual Uni fare of pot noodles eaten with a biro, won’t sustain your little darling for long.

But you need have no such concern now, because we’ve come up with a couple of ideas that, firstly will stop your own kitchen getting plundered, and secondly will send them safely on their way, well equipped.

And maybe even encourage some good healthy eating habits into the bargain, with a chance they’ll be eating something green that’s not Haribo’s……..I know, who am I kidding….

And, secondly, on another note,  far more pleasurable than divesting yourself of a child, if you are still an innocent when it comes to wine glasses, or maybe you’ve thought about dipping your toe into the world of Riedel, but could never quite commit to the investment, then I may have an enticement to correct this sorry state.

An enticement, I might add, that will have a profound effect on your wine drinking life. An investment no less, that you will find yourself quietly and deeply grateful to me for, for the rest of your natural.

You’re welcome!

To Product:

Riedel Grape Range.

As you may already know, the Riedel concept of making wine glass bowls that bring out the best flavour from particular grapes, by varying the bowl height, width, shape and capacity, is a science that is now about 50 years old. And, over the years they have been produced at quite a variety of price points, but pretty well all have still been wallet thinning luxuries.

Grape is a new range, brought out last year (and shouldn’t be confused with the old range of the same name, discontinued several years ago), and pricewise is the exception, at £30 a pair.

I know, I know, that’s hardly cheap is it!

Well no, but it is quite a different price point to the more usual £50 or £60 pounds a pair that many of the Riedel ranges sell for (and it’s about to get even better).

Because, Riedel are currently doing a very good offer on the range bringing them down by 20% to £23.95 a pair.

And We are adding to that offer this weekend. (Please see below)

There are six glasses in the range, and rather cleverly a number of them have multiple uses, and no this isn’t badge engineering, they really do work. Just try Champagne in the white wine glass next time and you’ll see what I mean:

  1. White Wine/Champagne/Spritz - covers most whites, bubbles, and spritz cocktails.
  2. Pinot Noir/Nebbiolo/Aperitivo – great for delicate reds and aperitif cocktails.
  3. Cabernet/Merlot/Cocktail - handles robust red wines, plus cocktails like Negronis and Pina Coladas.
  4. Chardonnay/Gin Tonic - for rich whites and G&Ts
  5. Martini, because some drinks just demand their own glass.
  6. Champagne Flute - for when you want traditional Champagne presentation (but aren’t too bothered about actually tasting it!)

It is true that Grape has some compromises compared to the grape specific ranges such as Vinum, Veritas, Veloce etc. but it’s also clever in that the four main glasses Pinot, Cabernet, Chardonnay and White Wine, not only have multiple uses, but are also very elegant to look at and do 75% of the job of their higher priced brothers.

For this weekend, please use code RIEDEL25 if shopping online or tell us who you are if bricks and mortar shopping, to get a further £3.95 off each pair bringing them to a very affordable £20 per pair.

At this price, the margin left for us makes me wince. However, there is method in my madness, because once you’ve started with Riedel, there is no going back. No returning to the black and bad old tasteless days. This is Hotel California all over again, but far more pleasurable, music apart, which is of course beyond criticism.

So, when the offer is finished, and you are happily paying £30 a pair, as you extend your range, now thinking that it is a bargain, then I will be as happy as Larry (making profit again), you’ll be happy as Larry (obviously), and all will be well with the world.

Zeal Stackable Egg Cups

Lastly, we’ve had the new Zeal Egg Cups (Stackable) in for a week or two now, and despite their beautiful colours and remarkable practicality, we’ve hardly sold any. These are made from melamine and come in a wide range of colours, 12 actually. Our website rather embarrassingly goes just a tad over the top and says…

“Transform your breakfast experience with the Zeal Stacking Egg Cup, where beautiful simplicity meets clever functionality. This innovative egg cup combines a space-saving stackable design with vibrant colours and durable construction, making every morning meal a stylish affair whilst keeping your kitchen organised.”

This is the sort of rubbish that they teach in a marketing departments of most of our suppliers. Why?

It’s a shame really, as hidden in amongst the bollocks there are some truisms. Why they do this I have been unable to fathom…just very, very irritating.

Anyway, you don’t have to let that put you off.

You can buy 4 of these little gems (for the price of three (Use CODE ZEAL25), salt and pepper to taste, toast your toast, cut into soldiers and start dipping….yum!!

I must go now. I have to go and fetch Jeanne from Redhill station. She’s just been to London finishing her trip to Borough Market et al… I’m expecting to eat like royalty tonight!!

I hope you have a pleasant and peaceful weekend.

Warm regards,

Andrew
