Sawdust & Stemware: New Riedel Value Packs

At Home
Outside of work I’ve had a personally challenging week, actually, I think ‘shitty’ would be a better description. Much as I’d like to compartmentalise, just now I don’t feel that I can really concentrate on work, which I suppose writing this email constitutes. In an effort to maintain sanity, I, like many males of the species over the years, threw myself into the refuge of domestic matters.
Jeanne, my daughter who was around as she was on holiday, and I managed some major clearing out of stuff in the kitchen, which is looking clearer and cleaner in one or two areas. Amidst all of that, we also managed to build a unit to go under our new and rather oversized TV. As an aside, our old one was years old and small by today’s standards. So, at Christmas I treated us to a new one from our local Richer Sounds in Reigate. I’ve nearly always received excellent advice from them over the years, which this time meant me spending a little more than I’d anticipated. But actually, I left with a feeling that the informed decision this advice resulted in, has delivered far better value for my money. When it arrived, we even managed to hook it up to the internet (this was a first for us), so that we can watch all sorts of web-based services that previously I’d only ever used on my laptop.
Very impressive…dragged right into the 21st century with remarkably little effort!

At Work
Workwise, I had a long conversation with Phil Roberts from Meater, who make a range of really interesting and original meat thermometers that stay in the food for the entire cooking time, with readouts coming through on your phone. More of this in the next week or two.
Le Creuset taster
Fans of Le Creuset will have more reason than usual (as if that’s even needed!) to read my newsletters in the coming weeks. February sees a variety of new and intriguing lines and even a full new colour range, from our friends in Andover. Watch this space!
Riedel Value Packs
Veloce is probably my favourite range of Riedel wine glasses, very elegant, beautiful, yet subtle, diamond-shaped design that not lonely looks fantastic but reveals more of the flavour of whatever your favourite wine is. We’ve received stock of Riedel Veloce value packs (pay for 3 but get 4 glasses). Available in four shapes/varietals:
• Cabernet
• Champagne
• Pinot
• Riesling
Last words
Thinking back to just over a year ago, I finished my newsletter with this observation,
“May I wish you a very good extended weekend and I hope that 2024 brings you what you need, this being sometimes different to what you (or I) might wish for. And in fact, on occasion can appear diametrically opposite ….uncomfortable yes, but satisfyingly stretching on occasion.”
For me, this week has been one of those uncomfortable, but I’m pretty sure, stretching times in life when I’m being challenged to be myself and not hide behind reasons to not be (my congruent self).
Fuck!
That’s it for this week, hopefully I will be back firing on all four cylinders (battery cells in progressive company?) by next week, or maybe it’ll take a little longer…we’ll see.. I trust you have a pleasant and peaceful weekend.
Warm regards
Andrew
