Wine, Worries, and a Jug That Glugs

I fear you’re getting pretty short shrift from me this week. I had a busy weekend, last weekend, my sister-in-law Madeleine, and her other half Hervé are staying with me this week, which means much sampling of various French wines. The French take wine seriously, as seriously as the British take complaining about the weather, so they’ll be much sipping, sniffing and the occasional nodding involved…especially if it’s a Bordeaux!

So, very little time for reading, writing, podcasts or other intellectual pursuits.

And, as I write (Wednesday 6.00am, if you please) I’ve just dropped Jeanne (Cobham Manager and daughter) off at Heathrow who’s flying off to Costa Rica. The last long-haul flight she attempted, got her to Sri Lanka, back in 2019, just as the bombs started falling, so I hope you’ll forgive a slight twitchiness about her holiday destination choices. Here's hoping that the Costa Ricans, army-less and peace-loving lot that they are, stick to the plan.

On top of that, I’ve just committed to write to everyone in the company a monthly report! Talk about idealistic self-sabotaging optimism! This is because after our last staff survey, that we did a year ago, it turns out we’re not that great at internal communication. Everyone felt that a monthly missive* of some sort would go some way to filling the hole.

Well, late is better than not at all I believe, but it’s all come together when there’s a lot going on.

To product

At the Index show, earlier this year, RKW were exhibiting a number of new lines, one of which I took an instant dislike to, namely their Wade Fish Jugs, sometimes known as Gluggle Jugs, and, thus, I dismissed them.

However, Darren Nickolls, their Channel Controller, managed to persuade me to look again at these little horrors.

Darren and I go back more years than either of us can recall, long enough therefore to trust him completely when he told me how well they were selling, and, he added with a twinkle in his eye, that they are currently trendy.

Oh yuk!

Em (General Manager) and Jeanne liked them as well (good thing I'm not into judging (much) people's taste that differs to mine) and so it is that these “little beauties” have arrived in the shops.

There are two sizes (0.6l and 1.2l) and they come in 6 colours.

Cobalt Blue, Forest Green, Grey, Sage Green, White and Teal.

And when you pour out of it, and I tried the large one myself, it goes glug, glug.

They are £34.99 and £44.99 respectively.

This week you may buy them at 20% off.

Tell us who you are if coming into the shops or use code GLUG20 if you are shopping online.

So that’s it for this week

I trust your weekend’s peaceful, your wine plentiful, and your crockery glugs.

Warm regards,

Andrew
