Joseph Joseph Cut & Carve Extra Large Black
The Cut & Carve Plus Extra Large is a versatile chopping board designed to handle both meat carving and everyday food preparation. One side features integrated spikes that grip meat securely during carving, whilst the opposite side provides a smooth cutting surface for vegetables, bread, and other ingredients.
The board's clever engineering includes an angled base that channels liquids and crumbs towards easy-pour corners, keeping your worktop clean during meal preparation. At 47.1cm wide, the extra-large size provides ample workspace for larger roasts, whole chickens, or multiple ingredients.
Key features:
- Dual surfaces: Integrated meat grip on one side, smooth cutting surface on the other
- Angled base design: Unique sloping base and raised edges catch meat juices and crumbs
- Easy-pour corners: Channels liquids for mess-free disposal into sink or gravy boat
- Stainless-steel handles: Easy-lift design for carrying from worktop to table or sink
- Non-slip edges: Stable during use, even when carving
- Extra-large capacity: 47.1cm x 33.4cm surface accommodates substantial roasts
This board suits households who regularly prepare roasted meats and want a single board that handles both carving and general food preparation without transferring between multiple boards.
What Customers Ask About Cut & Carve Extra Large
How does the meat grip work?
One side of the board features raised spikes moulded into the surface. These grip the meat as you carve, preventing it from sliding whilst you slice. The spikes are prominent enough to be effective but not so tall that they interfere with knife work. Use this spiked side exclusively for meat; flip to the smooth side for vegetables, bread, or other ingredients.
Will the angled base collect all the juices?
The board has a subtle slope that directs liquids towards the raised edges and then to the corner spouts. It's designed to catch typical juices from resting and carving meat. For very juicy roasts, some liquid may pool in the centre before draining. The system works most effectively when you pour regularly from the corners rather than waiting until carving is complete.
Is 47.1cm wide enough for a large turkey?
The 47.1 x 33.4cm surface accommodates most domestic oven roasts, including chickens up to approximately 2.5kg and smaller turkeys. For a 6kg+ Christmas turkey, you may find the board snug. Measure your typical roasting tin and compare it to these dimensions before purchasing. If you regularly cook very large birds, consider whether the extra-large size meets your needs or if you need a larger carving platter.
Can I cut directly on both sides?
Yes, both sides are designed as cutting surfaces. The spiked side is specifically for carving meat, whilst the smooth side handles general chopping tasks. The material is typically durable enough for everyday knife use, though the manufacturer's specific material composition would determine its knife-friendliness and longevity with heavy use.
Do the handles get in the way whilst cutting?
The stainless-steel handles are positioned at the short ends of the board, outside the main cutting area. They're designed for carrying rather than continuous use during food preparation. Most users find they don't interfere with carving or chopping, though the board's overall footprint (including handles) will be wider than the cutting surface alone.

Care & Use Instructions
Dishwasher Care: This board is dishwasher safe. Place it on the bottom rack to avoid warping from top-rack heating elements. Ensure adequate space around it for water circulation.
Handwashing: Wash in warm soapy water immediately after use, particularly after carving meat. Pay attention to the spiked side, ensuring meat fibres don't remain between the grips. Rinse thoroughly and dry promptly.
After Meat Use: Following meat preparation, wash the board promptly to prevent bacteria growth. Hot soapy water or a dishwasher cycle at appropriate temperature is recommended for hygiene.
Storage: Store flat or upright in a cupboard or against a wall. The handles allow for hanging if you have appropriate hooks. Ensure the board is completely dry before storage to prevent moisture-related issues.
Avoid: Whilst dishwasher safe, repeated high-temperature cycles over years may affect the board's appearance or structural integrity. Some users prefer handwashing to extend the product's lifespan, though this is a matter of preference rather than necessity.

Frequently Asked Questions
What if I've used it and don't like it?
Return it anyway. Our no quibble guarantee covers used items - if it doesn't do what you wanted, we'll refund you. This applies even after you've used the board for food preparation. We've offered this guarantee since 1972 because we believe customers shouldn't take a risk when purchasing kitchenware.
How does the Half-Price Replacement guarantee work?
Valid for 2 years from purchase date. If you accidentally damage this board, we'll replace it at half the current retail price with proof of purchase and evidence of damage. Photos of the damage are acceptable. If you registered your purchase with us at point of sale, we'll have it logged.
How long does delivery take?
Standard delivery to mainland UK addresses can take up to 7 working days, but is usually 3-4, and is free for orders over £49. Next day delivery may be available for £9.95 on orders placed before 1pm Monday to Thursday, depending on your location and our stock levels. You can also collect from our shops in Cobham or Reigate, or our warehouse in Redhill.
Can I put hot items directly on the board?
This depends on the specific material composition of the Cut & Carve board, which the manufacturer would specify. Generally, chopping boards are designed for cutting rather than as trivets. Allow roasted meat to rest briefly before carving, and use the board for carving rather than as a hot surface directly from the oven.
Will knife marks show on the black surface?
All chopping boards develop cut marks with use - this is normal and expected. Black surfaces may show lighter knife marks more visibly than some other colours, though this varies by material. Regular washing and proper knife technique (avoiding excessive pressure) help minimise visible marking. The board remains functional regardless of surface marks.
Is this suitable for vegetarian households?
Absolutely. Whilst one side features a meat grip designed for carving, you can use the smooth side exclusively for vegetables, bread, cheese, and other ingredients. The dual-sided design simply provides versatility; you're not required to use both sides.
How do I clean between the meat grips?
The raised spikes can trap small meat fibres. Use a brush (a clean washing-up brush works well) to scrub between the grips with hot soapy water. The dishwasher's spray action typically cleans these areas effectively as well. Ensure the board is completely clean before storage.
Does this come with a warranty?
Manufacturer warranty details would be included with your purchase. Additionally, our Half-Price Accidental Damage Replacement guarantee provides coverage for 2 years, giving you protection beyond typical manufacturer warranties for accidental breakage or damage.
