Spiegelau Definition Digestive Glasses
The Spiegelau Definition Digestive Glasses (Pair) were designed in 2022 as the latest evolution in Spiegelau's series of precision spirit glasses, building on the foundations of the earlier Willsberger (1982) and Hybrid (2011) collections. Using proprietary new manufacturing technology, the Definition range achieves the thinness and delicacy of fine glassware through machine production, resulting in a glass that feels exceptionally light and perfectly balanced in hand.
The bowl is shaped to allow fine spirits to be gently swirled, releasing aromas and flavours. The narrowing rim then concentrates these scents, directing them towards the nose for a more focused tasting experience. At 136ml capacity and 218mm in height, this is a refined, elegantly proportioned glass well-suited to after-dinner service.
- Aroma-concentrating rim: The narrow top focuses spirit aromas for a more immersive sensory experience
- Swirl-friendly bowl: Shaped to allow gentle agitation, helping to release additional aromas and flavours from the spirit
- Precision machine-made crystal: Proprietary technology produces thin, light glasses with outstanding consistency and balance
- Dishwasher safe: Tested to EN 12875 standards, capable of withstanding 1,000 wash cycles without demonstrable loss of clarity or shine
This glass is designed for enthusiasts who appreciate the ritual and sensory detail of fine spirit drinking, particularly when serving digestifs after a meal where aroma and flavour are central to the experience.
What Customers Ask About the Spiegelau Definition Digestive Glasses
What spirits are these glasses designed for?
Spiegelau describes these as glasses for fine spirits and digestifs - drinks typically served after a meal such as cognac, brandy, armagnac, or aged spirits where aroma is an important part of the drinking experience. The narrow rim and bowl geometry are specifically designed to concentrate and present the aromas of these styles of spirit. If you are looking for a glass suited to a different spirit style, contact us and we can help advise on the most appropriate option.
Why does the narrow rim matter for a spirits glass?
Spiegelau designed the Definition Digestive Glass so that the bowl allows gentle swirling, releasing aromas and flavour compounds from the spirit. As those aromas rise, the narrowing rim concentrates and channels them towards the nose rather than allowing them to disperse into the air. This focused delivery may enhance the tasting experience, particularly for complex spirits where aroma plays a significant role alongside flavour.
Is this sold as a pair or individually?
This is sold as a set of 2 glasses. The price shown is for both glasses together. Spiegelau packages the Definition Digestive Glasses in pairs, making them a practical choice for home entertaining or as a gift.
Can I put these in the dishwasher?
Yes, the Spiegelau Definition Digestive Glasses are dishwasher safe and have been tested to EN 12875 standards, with performance maintained over 1,000 wash cycles under good operating conditions. Use a low-temperature programme (50-55°C), ensure glasses do not touch each other or other items, and open the dishwasher door after the cycle to allow moisture to escape. Handwashing is always an option if you prefer, and will extend the life of the glass's pristine clarity.
What is the Definition collection and how did it develop?
Spiegelau introduced the Definition collection in 2022 as an evolution of two earlier ranges: the Willsberger collection (1982) and the Hybrid collection (2011). The Definition range uses proprietary new technology to produce machine-made glasses that are thinner and lighter than many predecessors whilst maintaining excellent consistency across each piece. If you would like to compare the Definition range with other Spiegelau collections, contact us and we can help find the right fit for your needs.

Care & Use Instructions
Dishwasher Use: Load glasses with sufficient space between them so they do not touch each other or any other items. Where possible, use the top rack and any dedicated glass holder your dishwasher provides. Select a low-temperature programme at 50-55°C, or use a specialist glassware programme if available. Do not overdose detergent or rinse aid, and ensure your dishwasher is regularly topped up with rinse aid and dishwasher salt matched to your local water hardness. After the cycle completes, open the door to allow steam to escape rather than letting it settle on the glass surface. Avoid washing alongside aluminium items, as chemical reactions between aluminium and crystal can cause irreversible glass corrosion.
Handwashing: Wash gently under warm (not hot or boiling) water using a small amount of mild washing-up liquid. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove all detergent residue. Use two large microfibre polishing cloths for drying - never a tea towel, which can cause surface damage. When drying, hold the glass under the bowl with one hand and polish with the other; do not hold the base and bowl simultaneously as this can place stress on the stem. Dry the base separately by holding it firmly and polishing carefully.
Polishing: Hold the bowl in one hand using a dry microfibre cloth and use a second cloth to polish the inside and outside of the bowl in careful circular motions. For stubborn water spots, add a small amount of white vinegar or citric acid to your final rinse water. These mild acids will dissolve limescale deposits. Note that glass corrosion - where components are actually washed out of the glass material - cannot be reversed, so correct washing practice from the outset is important.
Storage: Store glasses upright in a clean, dry location away from strongly scented items, as crystal glass can absorb surrounding odours which may affect the aroma of spirits when the glass is next used. Never stack glasses or store them rim-down, as this risks chipping the rim. Rinse glasses promptly after use so that spirit residues do not sit on the glass surface for extended periods.
Microfibre Cloths: Wash polishing cloths regularly at 60°C with odourless soap to maintain hygiene. Do not use fabric softener, as this can leave a residue on the glass surface. Do not tumble dry microfibre cloths.
