The Essential Mandoline from Kuhn Rikon slices firm fruit and vegetables such as potatoes, cucumbers and apples with a sharp stainless steel blade that adjusts from ultra-thin up to 5mm. A finger sheath lets you work right to the end of a carrot, and a silicone edge on the base helps it stay put on the worktop.
- Adjustable thickness: Turn the dial to set slices anywhere from ultra-thin up to 0.5cm.
- Ultra-sharp stainless steel blade: Suited to hard vegetables as well as softer fruit.
- Secure finger sheath: Holds the food so you can cut carrots safely right to the very end.
- Non-slip silicone edge: Grips the work surface to reduce slipping and the risk of injury.
- Smooth-gliding runner: Fine grooves let food slide cleanly and with great precision over the wide blade.
What Customers Ask About This Product
Can I put it in the dishwasher?
We recommend washing it by hand in warm soapy water. Dishwashers can dull and chip sharp blades, so handwashing helps keep the blade sharp for longer.
What is it best for slicing?
Firm fruit and vegetables such as potatoes, cucumbers, carrots and apples. The blade is suited to hard vegetables, so it copes well with the sort of produce that is slow to slice evenly by knife.
How do I slice small or short pieces?
For anything under 2.5cm, use the hand protector and slider rather than holding the food in your hand. The blade is extremely sharp, so it is worth taking that extra second every time.
How should I put it away after use?
Turn the dial back to 0.0mm once you have finished. As the blade is extremely sharp, store it out of reach of children.
In our experience...
Even slices cook evenly. Slices of the same thickness cook at the same rate, which helps with gratins, layered potato bakes and home-made crisps. Setting the dial once is easier than matching each slice by eye with a knife.
Firm produce slices best. Potatoes, carrots, cucumbers and firm apples hold their shape against the blade. Very soft or ripe fruit tends to squash on any mandoline, so keep those for the knife.
Rinse it soon after use. Starchy residue from potatoes is easier to remove before it dries. Use a brush or cloth carefully around the blade rather than your fingers, and dry it before putting it away.

Care & Use Instructions
Daily washing: Handwash in warm soapy water, taking care around the blade. We always recommend handwashing anything with a cutting edge, as dishwashers can dull and chip blades.
After each use: Turn the dial back to 0.0mm once you have finished slicing.
Safe use: The blade is extremely sharp. Always use the finger sheath, and for food under 2.5cm use the hand protector and slider. Keep out of reach of children.
