Riedel Vinum Pinot Noir Glasses

The Riedel Vinum Pinot Noir glasses feature a wider, more voluminous bowl than the Bordeaux shape, specifically designed for lighter-bodied red wines with delicate aromatics. Available in sets of 2, 4, 6, or 8 glasses, the 700ml capacity and generous opening allow these wines to breathe whilst concentrating their subtle fruit and floral notes. The bowl shape directs wine to the tip of the tongue first, emphasising the sweet fruit characteristics of Pinot Noir whilst managing its naturally high acidity.

This design works particularly well for wines from Burgundy, Oregon, and New Zealand's Central Otago, as well as Italian Nebbiolo-based wines like Barolo and Barbaresco. The wide bowl provides ample surface area for oxygen exposure, allowing these wines to express their complexity.

Key features of the Vinum Pinot Noir glass:

  • Wide bowl design: The 700ml capacity and generous opening enhance aromatic expression for delicate red wines
  • Lead-free crystal: Brilliant clarity with everyday durability
  • Compact height: 210mm height fits comfortably in standard cupboards whilst maintaining elegant proportions
  • Dishwasher safe: Machine washable at gentle temperatures, though handwashing extends longevity
  • Flexible pack options: Set of 2 (ideal for couples), Set of 4 (perfect for small gatherings), Set of 6 (ready for dinner parties), or Set of 8 (excellent value for serious collectors)

These glasses suit wine enthusiasts who appreciate aromatic red wines and understand that lighter-bodied wines require different glassware than powerful Cabernets and Merlots.

What Customers Ask About Riedel Vinum Pinot Noir Glasses

Which wines work best in this glass?

Riedel designed this glass specifically for Pinot Noir, Nebbiolo, Burgundy, Barolo, and Barbaresco. The wide bowl emphasises the delicate aromatics and fruit-forward characteristics of lighter-bodied red wines whilst managing their higher acidity. If you primarily drink full-bodied reds like Cabernet Sauvignon or Syrah, consider the Riedel Vinum Bordeaux glass instead, which has a taller, narrower bowl better suited to tannic wines.

Which pack size should I choose?

The set of 2 suits couples or those starting their collection. The set of 4 provides better value per glass and covers most small gatherings. The set of 6 ensures you have enough for dinner parties without mixing glass styles, plus spares if breakages occur. The set of 8 offers the best per-glass value and is ideal if you entertain regularly or want to build a complete collection at once. Consider how often you entertain and whether you want uniformity when serving guests – the 4-pack offers a good balance between value and versatility for most households, whilst the 8-pack suits committed wine enthusiasts.

Why is the Pinot Noir glass wider than the Bordeaux glass?

Pinot Noir and similar wines have delicate aromatics that benefit from a wider bowl with more oxygen exposure. The shape also directs wine to the tip of the tongue first, emphasising sweet fruit characteristics and balancing the naturally higher acidity of these wines. Full-bodied reds like Bordeaux blends have more tannin structure and benefit from a taller, narrower bowl that directs wine to the mid-palate instead.

Will 700ml capacity be enough for proper aeration?

Yes – the 700ml capacity is actually larger than the Bordeaux glass (610ml), providing even more room for swirling and aeration. For a standard 150-175ml pour, you'll have substantial headspace. The wide bowl maximises the wine's surface area contact with air, which is particularly important for aromatic wines that benefit from breathing.

Are these dishwasher safe?

Yes, Riedel Vinum glasses are dishwasher safe when used on a gentle cycle at maximum 55°C. Space glasses so they don't touch during the cycle, and avoid lemon-scented or highly abrasive detergents which can cloud crystal over time. Many customers choose to handwash these glasses to preserve their pristine clarity for years to come.

Care & Use Instructions

Dishwasher Care: Whilst dishwasher safe, use a gentle cycle at maximum 55°C. Space glasses so they don't touch during the wash cycle. Avoid lemon-scented or highly abrasive detergents which can cloud crystal over time. Remove promptly after the cycle and allow to air dry with the door open to prevent water spots.

Handwashing: Use warm (not hot) water with mild detergent. Hold glasses by the base, never twist the bowl whilst holding the stem. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately with a lint-free cloth to prevent water marks.

Polishing: Use a microfibre or linen cloth for best results. Never hold both the base and bowl at once – this can snap stems. For the bowl: hold the glass under the bowl with one cloth while polishing with another. For the base: hold it firmly in one hand while polishing with the other. For stubborn water spots, add a small amount of white vinegar to your rinse water before drying.

Storage: Store glasses upright, never stacked or rim-down. This prevents chipping of the delicate rim and allows air circulation to prevent musty odours developing. If storing the set of 6 or 8, consider using shelf dividers to maintain spacing between glasses.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does delivery take?

Standard delivery to mainland UK addresses can take up to 7 working days, but is usually 3-4, and is free for orders over £49. Next day delivery may be available for £9.95 on orders placed before 1pm Monday to Thursday, depending on your location and our stock levels. You can also collect from our shops in Cobham or Reigate, or our warehouse in Redhill.

Can I return the glasses if I don't like them after using them?

We offer a no quibble return guarantee that allows you to return goods even after use. The items must be in a resaleable condition and in their original packaging. Please wrap or box items appropriately for transit to avoid damage to goods or boxes.

How does the Half-Price Replacement guarantee work?

If you accidentally break a glass within 2 years of purchase, we'll replace it at half the current retail price. You'll need proof of purchase (receipt, bank statement, or order confirmation if purchased online) and evidence of the breakage (a photo is fine). We log your purchase at point of sale, or online orders are automatically recorded in our system. This applies whether you purchased a set of 2, 4, 6, or 8.

Is the 4-pack, 6-pack, or 8-pack better value than buying multiple pairs?

Riedel typically prices larger sets to offer better value per glass. The exact pricing is shown when you select your preferred variant. If you know you'll need multiple glasses for entertaining, the 4-pack, 6-pack, or 8-pack typically provides cost savings compared to buying multiple sets of 2.

Will dishwashing damage the glasses over time?

Riedel Vinum glasses are dishwasher safe, but regular machine washing can gradually reduce clarity compared to handwashing. Use a gentle cycle, avoid harsh detergents, and ensure glasses don't touch during washing. Many customers alternate between dishwasher and handwashing to balance convenience with longevity.

Are Riedel glasses marked with the brand name?

Authentic Riedel glasses typically feature subtle branding etched into the base. The Vinum collection glasses carry the Riedel mark, confirming authenticity. All glasses purchased from Art of Living Cookshop are genuine Riedel products sourced directly from the factory.

Can I buy single replacement glasses?

Riedel Vinum Pinot Noir glasses are sold in sets of 2, 4, 6, or 8. For replacement of broken glasses, our Half-Price Replacement guarantee provides the most cost-effective solution within 2 years of purchase. Contact us directly to discuss your specific needs.

Do you offer gift packaging?

Riedel Vinum glasses come in Riedel's standard packaging, which is suitable for gifting.

Rest of the World

If your country is not listed — including the USA, Australia, and other destinations — this is most likely because couriers charge by volumetric weight: a combination of package size and weight that makes standard online rates impractical to calculate automatically.
