Quick Overview: Riedel Veritas Cabernet/Merlot glass - machine-blown lead-free crystal with a 667ml bowl designed for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Bordeaux blends. Dishwasher safe. Available in sets of 2, 4, 6 or 8.

Riedel Veritas Cabernet / Merlot Glass

The Riedel Veritas Cabernet/Merlot glass was introduced in 2014 as part of Georg J. Riedel's brief to his technical team: create a series that was visually striking, comfortable to hold, and competitively priced without compromising on the varietal-specific design principles that define Riedel glassware. Machine-blown from lead-free crystal, it is available in sets of 2, 4, 6 or 8, and is fully dishwasher safe.

The 667ml bowl is designed for full-bodied, tannic red wines. Riedel's position is that the bowl shape emphasises fruit character whilst softening the perception of tannin, directing wine to areas of the palate where bitterness is less dominant. The result, in Riedel's design language, is a more balanced presentation of wines that can be aggressive when served in a glass that constrains them. Georg J. Riedel describes the Veritas range as combining the charm of a handmade glass with the consistent accuracy that machine production delivers - precision of bowl geometry being the key advantage over hand-blown production at a similar price point.

  • 667ml bowl: Generous capacity designed for full-bodied, tannic red wines including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Bordeaux blends
  • Machine-blown precision: Consistent bowl geometry and rim diameter across every glass in a set - a practical advantage for those serving multiple guests
  • Dishwasher safe: Fully dishwasher safe, making Veritas as practical as it is precise
  • Broad pack options: Available in sets of 2, 4, 6 or 8 to suit households and entertaining needs of any size
  • Lead-free crystal: Clear, precise, and lighter than glass

Veritas is well suited to those who want a Riedel varietal-specific glass for everyday use alongside special occasions - the dishwasher safety and consistent machine-blown quality make it a practical choice for regular use with good Bordeaux-style reds.

What Customers Ask About the Riedel Veritas Cabernet/Merlot Glass

Which wines is this glass designed for?

Riedel designed this glass for full-bodied, tannic red wines - primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Bordeaux blends. The recommended list also includes Brunello di Montalcino, Montepulciano, Petit Verdot, and Carmenere, as well as specific Bordeaux appellations including Pauillac, St. Emilion, Margaux, Pomerol, Medoc, and Pessac-Leognan Rouge. See the full wine list on this page. If you primarily drink lighter-bodied reds such as Pinot Noir, a Burgundy-specific glass would be more appropriate.

What pack sizes are available?

This glass is available in sets of 2, 4, 6 or 8. Please select your preferred pack size from the variants on this page. The price displayed will update accordingly. For households that entertain regularly, the sets of 6 or 8 represent the most practical option; the set of 2 is well suited to those trying Veritas before committing to a larger set.

What is the difference between Veritas and Riedel's Sommeliers collection?

Sommeliers is Riedel's premier handmade range, mouth-blown individually by skilled glassblowers in Austria. Veritas is machine-blown, which gives it two practical advantages over handmade glass: consistent bowl geometry across every piece in a set, and a lower price point. The design philosophy is the same - varietal-specific bowl shape directing wine to specific areas of the palate - but Veritas is built for regular use and dishwasher convenience where Sommeliers demands handwashing and more careful handling. If you are choosing between them, Sommeliers is for the cellar's finest occasions; Veritas is for drinking well every night.

How does Veritas compare to other machine-blown Riedel collections such as Veloce or Performance?

Veritas, Veloce and Performance are all machine-blown Riedel collections applying the same varietal-specific design principles at different price points and with some differences in bowl dimensions and stem design. Veritas was the first of the modern machine-blown ranges when it launched in 2014. If you are weighing up collections, contact us and we can help you identify which suits your wines and budget - the differences between collections are worth understanding before purchasing.

Is this glass dishwasher safe?

Yes - Riedel confirms the Veritas collection is fully dishwasher safe. Use a gentle cycle at no more than 55°C, ensure glasses are well spaced so they cannot knock against each other, and avoid heavily abrasive or lemon-scented detergents, which can cloud crystal over time. Remove promptly at the end of the cycle. Handwashing will extend the life of the crystal and maintain clarity for longer, but machine washing is entirely practical for regular use.

Veritas and the Case for Machine-Blown Precision

Riedel's argument for machine-blown production in the Veritas range is not a concession - it is a design position. Handmade glasses carry subtle variation between pieces: bowl diameter, rim thickness, and overall weight can differ slightly from glass to glass within the same set. For a company whose philosophy rests on precise bowl geometry directing wine to specific palate areas, that variation is a limitation. Machine-blown production eliminates it, ensuring every Veritas glass in a set performs identically.

Georg J. Riedel describes this as the precision advantage - the machine achieves what the hand cannot guarantee. At the same time, the Veritas bowl dimensions and shapes were developed using the same varietal-specific methodology as the handmade Sommeliers range. The process is different; the design logic is the same. For those who regularly entertain and want every guest's glass to deliver the same experience, that consistency has genuine practical value.

Care & Use Instructions

Dishwasher (Fully Supported): Riedel confirms the Veritas collection is dishwasher safe. Use a gentle cycle at no more than 55°C. Ensure glasses are well spaced in the upper rack so they cannot knock against each other or the dishwasher frame. Avoid lemon-scented or heavily abrasive detergents, which can cloud crystal over time. Remove promptly at the end of the cycle and allow to air dry briefly with the door open to prevent water spots.

Handwashing: Use warm water and a small amount of mild detergent. Hold the glass by the base and use a soft cloth or sponge on the interior. Never twist the bowl whilst holding the stem. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately with a lint-free microfibre or linen cloth. Handwashing will maintain crystal clarity for longer than machine washing.

Polishing: Hold the base firmly in one hand and polish the bowl with a lint-free cloth in the other. Do not grip both base and bowl simultaneously as this creates torsional stress on the stem.

Storage: Store upright and never stacked or rim-down. Ensure glasses cannot knock together in the cupboard. The 235mm height is manageable for standard cupboard shelving, but check clearance before purchasing a set of 8.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does delivery take?

Standard delivery to mainland UK addresses can take up to 7 working days, but is usually 3-4, and is free for orders over £49. Next day delivery may be available for £9.95 on orders placed before 1pm Monday to Thursday, depending on your location and our stock levels. You can also collect from our shops in Cobham or Reigate, or our warehouse in Redhill.

Can I return the glasses if I change my mind?

Yes - we offer a no quibble return guarantee on unopened glassware in original packaging within 30 days of purchase. We cannot accept returns on opened or used glassware due to hygiene and quality control requirements.

How does the Half-Price Replacement guarantee work?

If you accidentally break a glass within 2 years of purchase, we will replace it at half the current retail price. You will need proof of purchase (receipt, bank statement, or online order confirmation) and evidence of the breakage - a photo is sufficient. Online purchases are logged automatically; for in-store purchases, ask us to log the sale at the time.

Can I mix pack sizes - for example, buy a set of 4 now and add a set of 2 later?

Yes - because Veritas is machine-blown, every glass is produced to the same specifications and will match exactly. You can buy a set of 4 now and add further glasses later without any concern about variation between pieces. This is one of the practical advantages of machine-blown production over handmade glassware.

What if I have seen this glass cheaper elsewhere?

We offer a price match guarantee. If you find this identical product - same collection, same glass shape, same pack quantity - available from a competitor at a lower price on the same day, let us know and we will match it. Contact us via our contact page with the details.

Are these glasses marked to confirm they are genuine Riedel?

Authentic Riedel Veritas glasses carry the Riedel mark. All glasses sold by Art of Living Cookshop are genuine Riedel products. We are an authorised UK retailer and source stock directly from Riedel.

Is this suitable as a gift?

The Riedel Veritas Cabernet/Merlot glass comes in Riedel's presentation packaging, which is appropriate for gifting. Select your preferred pack size from the variants on this page. The set of 2 is a particularly practical gift size for most occasions.
