The Black+Blum Charcoal Water Filter & Coil pairs a binchotan charcoal stick with a stainless steel coil, so you can turn almost any bottle into a filter bottle. The charcoal draws out impurities like chlorine using a traditional Japanese method, releasing minerals back into your water as it filters. It's sustainably sourced from Laos, vacuum packed and pre-washed, and ready to use as soon as it's out of the packet.

Can I add anything to flavour my water while using it?
No, you cannot add anything else to the carafe or bottle while using a charcoal water filter.
Is charcoal dangerous if swallowed?
No, it isn't dangerous. Active charcoal is even used for some medical purposes, such as treating flatulence, high cholesterol and upset stomachs.
How should I store it?
Store it in a cool place out of direct sunlight, and consume the filtered water within 24 hours.
Will the coil fit my bottle?
It fits any bottle with a minimum spout opening of 30mm.

It's a neat way to upgrade a bottle you already own. Rather than buying a dedicated filter bottle, the coil lets you turn almost any existing bottle into one.
Binchotan charcoal has a genuinely long history. It was popularised during Japan's Edo period, with roots that may trace back around 1,200 years to the monk and scholar Kukai.
It has an enormous surface area for its size. Just 1 gram of binchotan charcoal has around 500 square metres of surface area, packed with tiny holes that trap contaminants.
It has a genuinely useful second life once finished. Old sticks are good for absorbing moisture and odours in a wardrobe or bin, or can be broken up and added to houseplant soil.
Be careful dropping it into glass. The charcoal is dense enough that dropping it into an empty glass jug or bottle risks cracking it, so always add water first.

How long does delivery take?
Standard delivery to mainland UK addresses can take 5-7 working days (but is usually much quicker than that), and it's free on orders over £49. Next day delivery is available for £9.95 on orders placed before 1pm Monday to Thursday, depending on your location and our stock levels. You can also collect from our shops in Cobham or Reigate, or our warehouse in Redhill.
