The Dualit Burr Coffee Grinder brings a level of control to home coffee preparation that most domestic grinders at this price do not match. Thirty-five grind settings cover the full range from espresso to cafetiere, and the dose control dial lets you select the number of cups you want to grind for rather than guessing by time or weight: set it and the grinder stops automatically when the right amount has been ground. Stainless steel conical burrs remove at 450rpm, which is slower than many budget grinders and helps preserve the aromatic compounds in the coffee. The 250g removable bean hopper has a self-closing valve so beans are not exposed when you remove it, and both the grind container and hopper can be removed for a thorough clean. A built-in ionisation device is an unusual inclusion at this price: it counteracts static build-up in the ground coffee, which reduces the mess of grounds clinging to the container and surrounding surfaces. A 52mm portafilter cradle is included for grinding directly into an espresso machine portafilter.
- 35 grind settings: Thirty-five settings cover the full range from very fine espresso grounds through to coarse for cafetiere and percolator, giving precise control over extraction across different brewing methods.
- Cup-based dose control with auto-stop: Select the number of cups using the adjustable dial (2 to 12 cups) and the grinder stops automatically when the correct amount has been ground, eliminating guesswork and reducing waste.
- Stainless steel conical burrs at 450rpm: The conical burrs rotate at a relatively slow 450rpm, which generates less heat than faster grinders and helps preserve the volatile aromatic compounds in the coffee.
- Built-in anti-static ionisation device: An integrated ionisation device counteracts static build-up in the ground coffee, which reduces the tendency for grounds to cling to the container and spill onto the worktop during pouring.
- 52mm portafilter cradle included: Grind directly into a 52mm portafilter for espresso machines, eliminating the transfer step from container to portafilter and reducing grounds spillage during espresso preparation.
What Customers Ask About This Product
What grind setting should I use for my brewing method?
As a starting guide, fine settings (lower numbers) suit espresso machines and moka pots; medium settings work for filter machines and AeroPress; coarser settings suit cafetiere and percolator. The 35 settings give you room to dial in within those ranges. The right setting also depends on the specific beans and your taste preference, so treat any starting point as a guide rather than a fixed rule.
What does the ionisation device do?
Static electricity in dry ground coffee causes individual particles to repel each other and cling to the container walls and surrounding surfaces, creating mess when you try to pour or tamp. The built-in ionisation device neutralises that static charge in the ground coffee, so it pours cleanly and compacts more evenly in a portafilter. It is an unusual feature at this price point and makes a noticeable difference to how tidy the process is.
Does the 52mm portafilter cradle fit my espresso machine?
The cradle is sized for 52mm portafilters. If your espresso machine uses a different portafilter size (common sizes include 51mm, 53mm, 54mm, and 58mm), the cradle may not fit your specific machine. Check your espresso machine's portafilter diameter before relying on the direct-grind function.
How accurate is the cup-based dose control?
The cup dial controls grinding time rather than weight, so the actual dose per cup varies with grind setting and bean density. It is calibrated as a useful guide rather than a precise weighing mechanism. For espresso preparation where exact dose matters, weighing the ground coffee on scales after grinding gives the most consistent results.
In our experience...
35 settings is more than most home grinders, and the range matters. Many domestic grinders offer 15 to 20 settings, which leaves large gaps between steps. At 35 settings, the increments between grind sizes are smaller, giving you room to make meaningful fine adjustments when dialling in espresso or adapting to a new bag of beans. The difference between grind 12 and grind 14 is useful; the difference between grind 3 and grind 5 on a 15-step grinder may not be.
Conical burrs at slow speed is a meaningful specification. Cheaper grinders often run burrs at 1,000rpm or above to grind quickly, which generates frictional heat. Heat can affect volatile aromatic compounds in coffee, particularly in lighter roasted specialty beans. At 450rpm, the Dualit generates noticeably less heat than faster machines, which is one reason professional-grade grinders tend to run slowly.
The anti-static ionisation device is more useful than it sounds to someone who has not experienced static ground coffee. Static in ground coffee is one of the most consistently annoying aspects of home grinding. Grounds stick to the container, fly onto the worktop when you try to pour, and resist tamping evenly in a portafilter. Ionisation eliminates this almost entirely. It is a detail that Dualit could reasonably have omitted at this price point but has included.
The self-closing hopper valve is a practical design feature. Removing a hopper that stays open exposes the remaining beans to air and can spill them when you lift it off. A self-closing valve seals the hopper when removed, keeping beans fresh and preventing spillage. It matters most if you regularly remove the hopper to swap between different bean varieties.
Dose control by cup number is a useful convenience feature with some limitations. Selecting cups rather than grams is intuitive and removes the need to think about dose during a busy morning routine. The limitation is that it uses time rather than weight, so the actual dose varies slightly with bean density and grind setting. For everyday coffee it is precise enough; for espresso dialled to a specific recipe, a scale remains the most accurate tool.

Care & Use Instructions
Bean hopper: Remove the hopper and empty any remaining beans before cleaning. Wash in warm soapy water, rinse, and dry thoroughly before replacing. The self-closing valve prevents spillage during removal.
Grind container: Remove and empty the grind container after each use. Wipe with a dry cloth or soft brush to remove residual grounds. Wash periodically in warm soapy water and dry completely before replacing.
Burrs: Remove the burrs periodically and clean with the included brush to remove compacted grounds and coffee oil build-up. Refer to the instruction manual for the correct removal procedure. Do not wash burrs in water.
Portafilter cradle: Wipe the portafilter cradle with a damp cloth after use. Remove any accumulated grounds from the cradle and surrounding area.
What to avoid: Do not immerse the motor unit in water. Do not grind non-coffee items. Do not leave the grinder running unattended for extended periods.
