Quick Overview: Compact first aid kit in protective tin - contains bandages, antiseptics, sunscreen and pocket guide for treating minor wilderness injuries.

Kikkerland Wilderness First Aid Kit

This portable first aid kit consolidates essential supplies for treating minor injuries encountered during outdoor activities into a compact metal tin measuring under 10cm long. The kit addresses the practical need for immediate treatment of cuts, scrapes, blisters, insect stings, and minor burns when hiking, camping, or engaging in wilderness activities where professional medical care isn't immediately accessible. The protective tin case prevents contents from being crushed in backpacks or damaged by moisture.

The inclusion of a pocket first aid guide provides basic treatment instructions for common outdoor injuries, valuable when you're away from immediate help and need to make decisions about wound care or injury management. The kit contains a variety of supplies covering different injury types, from adhesive bandages for cuts to sting relief for insect encounters. Key contents include:

  • Variety of bandages: Different sizes for various wound types and locations
  • Antiseptic wipes: Clean wounds to reduce infection risk before applying bandages
  • Sting relief: Treat insect bites and stings common in outdoor environments
  • Sunscreen: Protection from sun exposure during extended outdoor activities
  • Safety pins: Secure bandages or improvise slings if needed
  • Antibiotic ointment: Apply to cleaned wounds to help prevent infection
  • Pocket guide: Basic first aid instructions for reference in the field

This is designed for day hikers, weekend campers, families with outdoor enthusiasts, or anyone engaging in wilderness activities who needs basic first aid capability for minor injuries. It's not a replacement for professional medical care but provides immediate treatment for common outdoor injuries whilst you're away from medical facilities.

What Customers Ask About the Wilderness First Aid Kit

What items are included in the kit?

The kit includes a variety of bandages, antiseptic wipes, sting relief, sunscreen, safety pins, antibiotic ointment, and a pocket first aid guide. The exact quantities and specific types may vary. Check the contents list upon arrival to familiarise yourself with what's available.

Do the medical supplies have expiry dates?

Yes, medical supplies like antiseptic wipes, antibiotic ointment, and sunscreen have expiry dates. Check these dates when you receive the kit and periodically thereafter. Replace expired items to ensure the kit remains effective. Most supplies typically have shelf lives of 2-3 years.

Is this suitable for serious injuries?

No, this kit is designed for minor injuries like cuts, scrapes, blisters, and insect stings encountered during outdoor activities. For serious injuries, bleeding that won't stop, suspected fractures, or medical emergencies, seek professional medical attention immediately. This is a basic first aid kit, not emergency medical equipment.

How compact is this for hiking or backpacking?

At 6 x 9.3 x 1.7 cm, the tin case is compact enough for day packs, backpacks, or car glove compartments. The metal tin protects contents from crushing but adds weight compared to soft pouches. Consider whether the tin's protection justifies the weight for your specific activity.

Care & Storage Instructions

Upon receiving the kit: Open and familiarise yourself with the contents before your first outdoor activity. Read the pocket guide to understand basic first aid procedures. Check expiry dates on all medical supplies and note when items will need replacement.

Before each trip: Check that the kit is fully stocked and nothing has been used or removed since the last outing. Verify expiry dates haven't passed. Replace any used or expired items. Ensure the tin closes securely to protect contents.

Storage location: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Heat can degrade medications and adhesives. Keep out of reach of children. Store in an easily accessible location so you remember to take it on outdoor activities.

Checking expiry dates: Set a reminder to check medical supply expiry dates every 6 months. Antiseptic wipes, antibiotic ointment, and sunscreen degrade over time. Replace expired items even if they appear unused - expired medications may not work effectively.

After use: Restock immediately after treating an injury. Don't wait until your next trip to replace used items. Note which supplies you used most frequently - you may want to add extras of commonly needed items.

Cleaning the tin: Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth to remove dirt from outdoor use. Ensure it's completely dry before closing. Check the interior periodically for any leaking ointments or moisture that might damage other supplies.

Customising for your needs: Consider adding supplies specific to your activities or medical needs - blister plasters for long hikes, antihistamines if you're allergic to insect stings, or any personal medications. Ensure added items fit comfortably without crushing other contents.

Important safety reminder: This kit is designed for minor first aid only. For serious injuries, uncontrolled bleeding, suspected fractures, head injuries, or any situation where you're uncertain about treatment, seek professional medical attention immediately. When in doubt, call emergency services.

If your desired country is not listed (USA, Australia etc.) this is most likely because couriers charge by "Volumetric Weight" i.e. a combination of how large and how heavy the package is. Please note that any overseas shipment is at your own risk and you will hence need to take out insurance to cover any damage in transit.

Customs forms for all international packages list the value of the contents as well as a description of the items. Any customs or import duties levied once the package reaches your country must be borne by you. Your local customs office will be able to provide you with further information.
