Quick Overview: The Riedel Superleggero Hermitage/Syrah glass is a 668ml machine-made lead-free crystal glass designed for Syrah, Hermitage, Northern Rhône reds, Shiraz and other spicy, peppery full-bodied reds.

The Riedel Superleggero Hermitage/Syrah glass is designed for one of the most distinctive red grape varieties — Syrah and its expressions across the Northern Rhône and the New World. Whether it is the violet, pepper and smoked meat characters of a Crozes-Hermitage or Saint-Joseph, the concentrated power of a Cornas, or the fruit-forward richness of an Australian Shiraz, the bowl is shaped to emphasise the variety's hallmark aromatics rather than its tannin and weight. At 668ml, it is large enough to allow the wine to breathe, while the rim diameter concentrates the pepper and dark fruit notes before they reach the nose.

  • 668ml capacity: Sized for full-bodied reds that need room to breathe, without the full volume of a Burgundy Grand Cru. The bowl shape is calibrated for Syrah-based wines rather than Pinot Noir or Cabernet.
  • Designed for Syrah and Hermitage: The bowl shape directs wine to the parts of the palate where Syrah's tannin, spice and dark fruit show best — Northern Rhône appellations, Shiraz and peppery New World Syrah alike.
  • Machine-made on Riedel's own equipment: Produced on an in-house machine for consistent bowl geometry and rim diameter across every glass.
  • Lead-free crystal: Made from lead-free crystal for clarity and a light, balanced feel in the hand.
  • Dishwasher safe: Technically dishwasher safe, though hand washing is recommended to maintain optical clarity over time.

What Customers Ask About This Product

What wines is the Superleggero Hermitage/Syrah glass designed for?

It is designed for Syrah and Syrah-based wines — Northern Rhône appellations (Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Saint-Joseph, Cornas, Saint-Péray), Australian Shiraz, and peppery New World Syrah.

Can I use this glass for other full-bodied reds?

Yes. The bowl also works well for other tannic, spicy reds — Malbec, Mourvèdre and Grenache blends. It is less suited to Pinot Noir, which benefits from a larger, rounder bowl.

How does the Hermitage/Syrah differ from the Bordeaux Grand Cru?

The bowls are similar in capacity but the Hermitage/Syrah is shaped to direct wine to a different part of the palate — it emphasises the pepper and spice of Syrah, whereas the Bordeaux Grand Cru is calibrated for Cabernet Sauvignon's tannin and dark fruit structure.

Care & Use Instructions

Hand washing recommended: Wash in warm (not hot) water with a small amount of mild detergent. Hold the glass by the base and support the bowl gently — avoid gripping the stem.

Dry immediately: Dry straight away with a clean, lint-free microfibre cloth. This prevents water spots and keeps the glass clear. Do not hold the base and twist the bowl while drying.

Dishwasher use: If using a dishwasher, use the gentlest cycle at no more than 50°C. Place on the upper rack with glasses not touching each other. Avoid lemon-scented or abrasive detergents. Open the door and allow to air dry rather than using the drying cycle.

Remove water spots: A small amount of white vinegar added to the final rinse water helps prevent and remove mineral deposits and water spots.

Storage: Store upright in a clean, dry cupboard. Never stack glasses or store rim-down, as the rim is the most delicate part of the glass.

Rest of the World

If your country is not listed — including the USA, Australia, and other destinations — this is most likely because couriers charge by volumetric weight: a combination of package size and weight that makes standard online rates impractical to calculate automatically.

Please call us on 01737 222996 with the details of your order. We will advise on shipping costs within 24 hours and ask whether you would like to proceed.

Before you order internationally, please note:

All overseas shipments are at your own risk. We recommend taking out appropriate transit insurance to cover any damage in transit.

Customs forms for all international packages declare the full value and a description of the contents. Any customs or import duties levied on arrival in your country are your responsibility. Your local customs office can provide further information.
