The Riedel Superleggero Loire/Sauvignon Blanc glass is designed for the crisp, high-acid, aromatic whites of the Loire Valley and their New World equivalents. Where the Oaked Chardonnay glass is shaped for wines with weight and texture, the Loire bowl is calibrated for freshness — Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé, Muscadet, unoaked Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, South Africa and Chile. At 400ml, it is smaller than most of the white wine glasses in the Superleggero range, with a rim diameter that concentrates the grass, citrus and herbaceous characters that define this style before they reach the nose.
- 400ml capacity: A focused bowl sized for crisp, high-acid whites — concentrating aromatics without allowing them to dissipate as they would in a larger bowl.
- Designed for Loire whites and Sauvignon Blanc: The bowl shape is calibrated for unoaked Sauvignon Blanc, Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé, Muscadet, Chablis and other high-acid, aromatic dry whites. The rim diameter highlights freshness and herbaceous aromatic character.
- Machine-made on Riedel's own equipment: Consistent bowl geometry and rim diameter across every glass, produced on Riedel's in-house machine.
- Lead-free crystal: Made from lead-free crystal for optical clarity and a clean, light feel in the hand.
- Dishwasher safe: Technically dishwasher safe, though hand washing is recommended to maintain clarity and prevent water spots over time.
What Customers Ask About This Product
What wines is the Superleggero Loire/Sauvignon Blanc glass designed for?
It is designed for crisp, unoaked whites — Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé, Muscadet, Chablis, unoaked Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, South Africa and Chile, Albariño, Grüner Veltliner and similar high-acid, aromatic dry whites.
What is the difference between the Loire and the Riesling/Zinfandel glass?
Both have 400ml bowls, but the Loire/Sauvignon Blanc has a rim diameter calibrated for the higher acidity and more herbal, citrus-driven character of Sauvignon Blanc and Loire whites, while the Riesling/Zinfandel is shaped for Riesling's more floral aromatics and also doubles as a medium red wine glass.
Can I use the Loire glass for oaked Chardonnay?
The bowl is not designed for oaked whites — it would suppress the weight and texture that make oaked Chardonnay distinctive. The Oaked Chardonnay glass is the right choice for Meursault, Montrachet and similar wines.

Care & Use Instructions
Hand washing recommended: Wash in warm (not hot) water with a small amount of mild detergent. Hold the glass by the base and support the bowl gently — avoid gripping the stem.
Dry immediately: Dry straight away with a clean, lint-free microfibre cloth. This prevents water spots and keeps the glass clear. Do not hold the base and twist the bowl while drying.
Dishwasher use: If using a dishwasher, use the gentlest cycle at no more than 50°C. Place on the upper rack with glasses not touching each other. Avoid lemon-scented or abrasive detergents. Open the door and allow to air dry rather than using the drying cycle.
Remove water spots: A small amount of white vinegar added to the final rinse water helps prevent and remove mineral deposits and water spots.
Storage: Store upright in a clean, dry cupboard. Never stack glasses or store rim-down, as the rim is the most delicate part of the glass.
