The Riedel Superleggero Oaked Chardonnay glass is designed specifically for wines that have been aged in oak — white Burgundy, Meursault, Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne and their equivalents from the New World. These are wines with texture and weight, where the oak has added structure, vanilla and spice alongside the primary fruit. The glass's bowl shape directs wine to the mid-palate, where the richness and texture of these wines are best perceived, and the rim diameter concentrates the aromatic complexity before it reaches the nose.
- 660ml capacity: A medium-large bowl sized for rich, textural whites that need room to breathe without the full volume of a red wine glass.
- Designed for oaked whites: The bowl shape is calibrated for Chardonnay aged in oak — white Burgundy, Meursault, Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne and New World equivalents — directing wine to the mid-palate where richness and texture show best.
- Machine-made on Riedel's own equipment: Consistent bowl geometry and rim diameter across every glass, produced on Riedel's in-house machine.
- Lead-free crystal: Made from lead-free crystal for optical clarity and a light, balanced feel in the hand.
- Dishwasher safe: Technically dishwasher safe, though hand washing is recommended to preserve clarity and prevent water spots over time.
What Customers Ask About This Product
What wines is the Superleggero Oaked Chardonnay glass designed for?
It is designed for oaked white wines — white Burgundy, Chardonnay (oaked), Meursault, Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, Pouilly-Fuissé and similar rich, textural whites from both the Old and New World.
Can I use this glass for unoaked Chardonnay?
You can, but a glass designed for unoaked Chardonnay or Chablis would be more appropriate. The Oaked Chardonnay bowl is calibrated for wines with more weight and texture — a lighter, crisper wine may come across as flat in this shape.
How does this glass differ from the Bordeaux Grand Cru?
The Oaked Chardonnay is smaller (660ml vs 953ml) and designed for white wines, with a bowl shape that emphasises richness and texture rather than tannin structure. The Bordeaux Grand Cru is designed for full-bodied red wines.

Care & Use Instructions
Hand washing recommended: Wash in warm (not hot) water with a small amount of mild detergent. Hold the glass by the base and support the bowl gently — avoid gripping the stem.
Dry immediately: Dry straight away with a clean, lint-free microfibre cloth. This prevents water spots and keeps the glass clear. Do not hold the base and twist the bowl while drying.
Dishwasher use: If using a dishwasher, use the gentlest cycle at no more than 50°C. Place on the upper rack with glasses not touching each other. Avoid lemon-scented or abrasive detergents. Open the door and allow to air dry rather than using the drying cycle.
Remove water spots: A small amount of white vinegar added to the final rinse water helps prevent and remove mineral deposits and water spots.
Storage: Store upright in a clean, dry cupboard. Never stack glasses or store rim-down, as the rim is the most delicate part of the glass.
