The Riedel Superleggero Spirits glass is a tulip-shaped bowl designed for nosing and tasting whisky, Cognac, Armagnac, aged rum and other spirits where aroma is central to the experience. The tulip shape — wider in the middle, narrowing toward the rim — allows the spirit to breathe and develop in the lower bowl while concentrating the aromatics before they reach the nose. The narrow rim also reduces the directness of the alcohol vapour, allowing the underlying fruit, wood, spice and grain characters to come through more clearly. This is a glass designed for sipping and nosing, not for cocktails.
- Tulip-shaped bowl: The tulip shape — wider in the middle, narrowing at the rim — concentrates aromatic vapour before it reaches the nose and reduces the directness of alcohol, allowing the spirit's underlying character to show more clearly.
- Designed for whisky and Cognac: Calibrated for aged spirits where aromatics are the primary experience — single malt Scotch, blended whisky, Cognac, Armagnac, aged rum and other digestifs. Not intended for cocktails or serving spirits with ice.
- Machine-made on Riedel's own equipment: Consistent bowl geometry and rim diameter across every glass, produced on Riedel's in-house machine.
- Lead-free crystal: Made from lead-free crystal for optical clarity and a clean, light feel in the hand.
- Dishwasher safe: Technically dishwasher safe, though hand washing is recommended to maintain the glass's clarity and performance.
What Customers Ask About This Product
What spirits is the Superleggero Spirits glass designed for?
It is designed for aged, aromatic spirits — single malt Scotch, blended whisky, Irish whiskey, Cognac, Armagnac, aged rum, calvados and other digestifs where nosing the spirit is part of the experience.
Can I use this glass for cocktails?
The Spirits glass is not designed for cocktails. The tulip shape concentrates aromatics for nosing and sipping — which is not relevant for a mixed drink. For cocktails, a rocks glass or a highball would be more appropriate.
Should I add water to whisky in this glass?
A few drops of water can open up a high-strength whisky and reduce the alcohol vapour at the rim. The Spirits glass is large enough to allow this without affecting the bowl's function.

Care & Use Instructions
Hand washing recommended: Wash in warm (not hot) water with a small amount of mild detergent. Hold the glass by the base and support the bowl gently — avoid gripping the stem.
Dry immediately: Dry straight away with a clean, lint-free microfibre cloth. This prevents water spots and keeps the glass clear. Do not hold the base and twist the bowl while drying.
Dishwasher use: If using a dishwasher, use the gentlest cycle at no more than 50°C. Place on the upper rack with glasses not touching each other. Avoid lemon-scented or abrasive detergents. Open the door and allow to air dry rather than using the drying cycle.
Remove water spots: A small amount of white vinegar added to the final rinse water helps prevent and remove mineral deposits and water spots.
Storage: Store upright in a clean, dry cupboard. Never stack glasses or store rim-down, as the rim is the most delicate part of the glass.
