Riedel Vinum Bordeaux Glasses
The Riedel Vinum Bordeaux glasses are part of Riedel's pioneering Vinum collection, designed specifically for full-bodied red wines with complex tannin structures. Available in sets of 2 or 8 glasses, each features a classic tulip-shaped bowl that directs wine to the mid-palate, emphasising fruit character whilst softening tannin perception in wines like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and traditional Bordeaux blends.
Whether you're starting your collection with a pair for intimate dining or equipping a full dinner party with a set of 8, these glasses offer the same exceptional quality and varietal-specific design that made Vinum a benchmark in wine service.
Key features:
- Varietal-specific design: The 610ml bowl shape is engineered for full-bodied red wines with moderate to high tannins
- Lead-free crystal: Brilliant clarity and durability, suitable for everyday use
- Elegant proportions: 225mm height provides visual appeal and practical functionality
- Dishwasher safe: Machine washable at gentle temperatures, though handwashing extends longevity
- Pack options: Set of 2 (ideal for couples or adding to existing collection) or Set of 8 (perfect for entertaining)
These glasses suit wine enthusiasts who appreciate the difference that proper glassware makes to the tasting experience, particularly for structured red wines from Bordeaux, Napa Valley, or similar regions.
What Customers Ask About Riedel Vinum Bordeaux Glasses
Which wines work best in this glass?
Riedel designed this glass specifically for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and traditional Bordeaux blends. The bowl shape directs wine to the mid-palate, emphasising fruit character whilst softening tannin perception in full-bodied reds. If you primarily drink lighter reds like Pinot Noir or Beaujolais, consider the Riedel Vinum Pinot Noir glass instead, which has a wider bowl better suited to delicate aromatics.
Should I buy the set of 2 or set of 8?
The set of 2 suits couples, individuals starting their collection, or those adding to existing glassware. The set of 8 provides better value per glass and ensures you have enough for dinner parties or family gatherings without mixing glass styles. Consider how often you entertain and whether you want uniformity when serving guests – many customers start with 2 and add an 8-pack later as their collection grows.
How does Vinum compare to Veritas or Extreme collections?
Vinum offers excellent value as Riedel's core varietal-specific collection, with slightly thicker walls than Veritas (making it more robust for everyday use) at a lower price point. Veritas features thinner crystal and larger bowls for special occasions, whilst Extreme has a more contemporary angular design. If you want affordable varietal-specific glassware for regular use, Vinum delivers outstanding performance.
Will 610ml capacity be enough for a proper pour?
Absolutely – 610ml provides ample capacity for a standard 150-175ml wine pour with plenty of room for swirling and aeration. The glass should never be filled more than one-third full to allow the wine to breathe properly and concentrate aromas in the upper bowl.
Are these dishwasher safe?
Yes, Riedel Vinum glasses are dishwasher safe when used on a gentle cycle at maximum 55°C. Space glasses so they don't touch during the cycle, and avoid lemon-scented or highly abrasive detergents which can cloud crystal over time. Many customers choose to handwash these glasses to preserve their pristine clarity for years to come.
What Our Customers Tell Us
Based on customer reviews, three consistent themes emerge. First, customers repeatedly praise the combination of quality and value. Jonathan notes they're great glasses with excellent value, whilst Catherine highlights the beautiful quality at a brilliant price point. This value proposition appears particularly important for customers purchasing glassware as gifts.
Second, customers appreciate Riedel's reputation for enhancing the wine-drinking experience. As one reviewer notes, "Riedel always delivers on its promise - the right way to taste grape varieties." This suggests customers understand and value the varietal-specific design philosophy behind these glasses.
Third, the suitability as gifts receives repeated mention. Catherine specifically purchased these as a present, noting the quality justifies the price. In our 52 years selling quality homeware, we've noticed that wine glasses occupy an interesting position – considered enough for gift-giving, yet practical enough for regular use. These Vinum glasses appear to strike that balance effectively.

Care & Use Instructions
Dishwasher Care: Whilst dishwasher safe, use a gentle cycle at maximum 55°C. Space glasses so they don't touch during the wash cycle. Avoid lemon-scented or highly abrasive detergents which can cloud crystal over time. Remove promptly after the cycle and allow to air dry with the door open to prevent water spots.
Handwashing: Use warm (not hot) water with mild detergent. Hold glasses by the base, never twist the bowl whilst holding the stem. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately with a lint-free cloth to prevent water marks.
Polishing: Use a microfibre or linen cloth for best results. Never hold both the base and bowl at once – this can snap stems. For the bowl: hold the glass under the bowl with one cloth while polishing with another. For the base: hold it firmly in one hand while polishing with the other. For stubborn water spots, add a small amount of white vinegar to your rinse water before drying.
Storage: Store glasses upright, never stacked or rim-down. This prevents chipping of the delicate rim and allows air circulation to prevent musty odours developing. If storing the set of 8, consider using shelf dividers to maintain spacing between glasses.

Frequently Asked Questions
What if I've used the glasses and don't like them?
Return them anyway. Our no quibble guarantee covers used items - if they don't do what you wanted, we'll refund you. This applies even after you've used the glasses for wine service. We've offered this guarantee since 1972 because we believe customers shouldn't take a risk when purchasing glassware.
How does the Half-Price Replacement guarantee work?
Valid for 2 years from purchase date. If you accidentally break a glass, we'll replace it at half the current retail price with proof of purchase and evidence of breakage. Photos of the damage are acceptable. If you registered your purchase with us at point of sale, we'll have it logged. Online purchases are automatically recorded. We can also accept bank statements if you've misplaced your receipt. This applies whether you purchased a set of 2 or set of 8.
How long does delivery take?
Standard delivery to mainland UK addresses can take up to 7 working days, but is usually 3-4, and is free for orders over £49. Next day delivery may be available for £9.95 on orders placed before 1pm Monday to Thursday, depending on your location and our stock levels. You can also collect from our shops in Cobham or Reigate, or our warehouse in Redhill.
Is the set of 8 better value than buying multiple sets of 2?
Riedel typically prices larger sets to offer better value per glass. The exact pricing is shown when you select your preferred variant. If you know you'll need multiple glasses for entertaining, the set of 8 typically provides cost savings compared to buying four sets of 2.
Will dishwashing damage the glasses over time?
Riedel Vinum glasses are dishwasher safe, but regular machine washing can gradually reduce clarity compared to handwashing. Use a gentle cycle, avoid harsh detergents, and ensure glasses don't touch during washing. Many customers alternate between dishwasher and handwashing to balance convenience with longevity.
Are Riedel glasses marked with the brand name?
Authentic Riedel glasses typically feature subtle branding etched into the base. The Vinum collection glasses carry the Riedel mark, confirming authenticity. All glasses purchased from Art of Living are genuine Riedel products sourced directly from authorised suppliers.
Can I buy single replacement glasses?
Riedel Vinum Bordeaux glasses are sold as sets of 2 or 8. For replacement of broken glasses, our Half-Price Replacement guarantee provides the most cost-effective solution within 2 years of purchase. Contact us directly to discuss your specific needs.
Will this work with your price match guarantee?
Yes. If you've seen these identical Riedel Vinum Bordeaux glasses cheaper elsewhere, tell us where. If they're available with our competitor on the day you contact us, we'll match the price. The item must be identical in specifications, collection, and pack quantity.
