The Smeg MFF11 is a milk frother that goes beyond the basic frothing wand. The induction heating system heats milk evenly and consistently, and six preset programmes cover the range of milk-based drinks: hot milk with dense or light foam, cold milk with dense or light foam, and hot chocolate. A manual mode gives additional flexibility. Two interchangeable whisks handle different tasks: the toothed whisk for frothing and the chocolate function, and the smooth whisk for heating and mixing. The stainless steel carafe holds up to 600ml for heating or 250ml for whipping, and the carafe is dishwasher safe. Available in White, Pastel Blue, Cream, and Black, it fits naturally alongside other Smeg appliances in the same palette.
- Induction heating system: Even induction heating warms milk consistently throughout rather than from the base only, which improves the quality of both heated and frothed milk.
- Six automatic programmes plus manual mode: Choose from hot milk with dense or light foam, cold milk with dense or light foam, or hot chocolate via the multifunction knob, or use manual mode for custom preparation.
- Two interchangeable whisks: The toothed whisk is designed for frothing hot or cold milk and the chocolate function; the smooth whisk handles heating and mixing tasks without aerating the milk.
- Dishwasher-safe stainless steel carafe: The carafe lifts off the base and goes in the dishwasher for cleaning, with a 600ml capacity for heating and 250ml for whipping.
- Retro Smeg design in four colours: Available in White, Pastel Blue, Cream, and Black, the MFF11 carries the same retro aesthetic as the wider Smeg appliance range for a consistent kitchen look.
What Customers Ask About This Product
What is the difference between the toothed and smooth whisks?
The toothed whisk introduces air into the milk to create foam, so it is used for any programme that involves frothing, whether hot or cold, and for the hot chocolate function. The smooth whisk circulates and heats the milk without aerating it, making it the right choice when you want warm milk without foam, or when mixing a drink.
Can it make cold foam as well as hot?
Yes. Two of the six programmes produce cold milk with either dense or light foam, which is useful for iced coffees, cold lattes, and similar drinks where you want froth without heat.
How much milk can it froth at once?
The carafe holds up to 250ml when whipping or frothing. For heating milk without frothing, the maximum capacity is 600ml. If you regularly make drinks for several people at once, you may need to run more than one cycle for frothed milk.
Will this work with plant-based milks?
The source data does not specifically confirm plant-based milk compatibility. Many induction-heated frothers work with oat, almond, and soy milk to varying degrees of success depending on the milk's fat and protein content, but results can differ from dairy milk. The instruction manual will give the most accurate guidance on this.
In our experience...
Induction heating produces more consistent results than base-element heating. A standard electric milk frother heats from the bottom, which can create hot spots and uneven temperature distribution. Induction heating energises the carafe itself, warming the milk more evenly throughout and improving both the texture of foam and the flavour of heated milk.
The whisk you choose matters as much as the programme. Selecting the right programme but the wrong whisk will produce a different result to what you expected. Dense foam requires the toothed whisk; warm milk without froth requires the smooth whisk. It is worth pausing to check before each use until the habit is established.
Cold foam has become significantly more popular as iced coffee drinking has grown. A few years ago cold foam was a specialist request. It is now a standard expectation at many coffee shops, and the ability to make it at home is a more relevant feature than it would have been previously. The MFF11's cold foam programmes cover both dense and light variants.
The 250ml frothing capacity suits one to two drinks per cycle. At a typical frothing ratio, 250ml of milk produces enough foam for two standard cappuccinos or one large latte. If you are making drinks for more people simultaneously, factor in the time for a second cycle.
Matching the frother to other Smeg appliances is a genuine reason to choose this model. Smeg's retro design language is consistent across the product range, and the MFF11 in any of its four colours sits naturally alongside a Smeg kettle, toaster, or coffee machine. For kitchens where a matched set is the goal, this is one of the more considered milk frothers available in that aesthetic.
