The Smeg WKF01 is a stovetop whistling kettle that brings the brand's retro aesthetic to hob use rather than a plug socket. At 2.3 litres it holds up to ten cups, making it the more generous option for households that brew in larger quantities or entertain regularly. The built-in whistle sounds when the water reaches boiling point, letting you move away from the hob without monitoring it. It is compatible with all hob types including induction, with a 20cm base diameter that suits most standard hob rings. The handle has a silicone non-slip grip that stays cool during use, the conical spout allows controlled pouring without splashing, and a flip-open spout cover keeps the inside protected. The removable lid makes filling straightforward. Available in eight colours, all in Smeg's gloss 50s-style finish.
- Audible whistle signals boiling point: Steam pressure builds and escapes through the built-in whistle as the water reaches boiling point, giving a clear single-tone signal so you can attend to other things whilst the kettle heats.
- Compatible with all hob types including induction: Works on induction, gas, ceramic, and electric hobs, with a 20cm base diameter and stainless steel and aluminium base construction for induction compatibility.
- 2.3-litre capacity for up to 10 cups: A generous 2.3-litre capacity with MIN and MAX water level indicators allows accurate filling for anywhere between a single cup and a full ten-cup batch.
- Silicone-grip handle stays cool to the touch: The long ergonomic handle has a silicone non-slip grip that insulates against heat during use, keeping the handle comfortable to hold when pouring.
- Conical spout with flip-open cover: The carefully designed conical spout gives precise, splash-free pouring, and a flip-open cover keeps the spout protected when the kettle is not in use.
What Customers Ask About This Product
Will this work on my induction hob?
Yes. The base is made from stainless steel and aluminium specifically for induction compatibility, and the 20cm base diameter suits most standard induction rings. It is also compatible with gas, ceramic, and electric hobs.
Does it have a water level indicator?
Yes. There are MIN and MAX water level indicators inside the kettle, making it straightforward to fill accurately without overfilling or running it dry.
Is it suitable for use if there is no electricity available?
Yes. Being a stovetop kettle with no electronic components, it works wherever there is a hob or heat source, making it a practical choice for situations where electricity is limited or unavailable.
How do I fill it?
The lid is removable for easy filling directly from the tap. The conical spout also has a flip-open cover that can be opened for filling if preferred, though filling through the top with the lid removed is the more practical approach.
In our experience...
A stovetop kettle does not require electricity, which matters more than it might seem. Beyond the obvious use case of a kitchen without a convenient socket, a stovetop kettle is useful during power outages, in homes with limited sockets near the hob, and for anyone who prefers to centralise their kitchen activity around the hob. It is also marginally more energy-efficient than an electric kettle since the heat from the hob transfers to the water without conversion losses.
The whistle is a genuine functional feature, not just a nostalgic one. An electric kettle switches itself off when it boils. A stovetop kettle without a whistle would need constant monitoring to avoid over-boiling. The whistle solves that problem simply and reliably without any electronic components that could fail.
2.3 litres is more than most electric kettles. The standard capacity for a domestic electric kettle is 1.7 litres. At 2.3 litres the Smeg stovetop kettle holds roughly a third more, which makes a meaningful difference when boiling for a group or when making a large pot of tea.
Induction compatibility is not universal in stovetop kettles. Some traditional stovetop kettles are made from materials that are not induction-compatible. The Smeg WKF01's stainless steel and aluminium base is specifically designed for induction, which gives it the full range of hob compatibility rather than limiting it to gas or electric only.
The Smeg aesthetic carries through to stovetop products as well as electric ones. The WKF01 is available in the same colour palette as Smeg's electric kettles and toasters, which means it can sit alongside them on the worktop without looking out of place. For anyone building a matched Smeg kitchen, the stovetop kettle extends the set to the hob.

Care & Use Instructions
After each use: Empty any remaining water and rinse the inside of the kettle. Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
Descaling: Descale periodically using a proprietary kettle descaler or a solution of water and citric acid. Fill to the MIN line with the solution, heat until the whistle sounds, then leave to cool before emptying and rinsing thoroughly. Avoid vinegar, which can affect the stainless steel finish over time.
Exterior cleaning: Wipe the gloss exterior with a soft damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scourers that could scratch the finish.
Handle and silicone grip: Wipe the handle and silicone grip with a damp cloth. The silicone grip is not removable for separate washing.
What to avoid: Do not use on a hob ring significantly larger than the 20cm base diameter. Do not leave the kettle unattended on the hob after the whistle has sounded, as continued heating after boiling is unnecessary. Do not immerse in water.
