£190 Off the Kitchenaid That Does (Almost) Everything

KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer 125 Onyx Black (2382936113210)

Preamble. When ‘hope’ needs to be tempered with a little realism.

Back at the beginning of January I did a piece on ‘hope’, or rather, I let Nick Cave* do a piece on it, that I then quoted, as I was very impressed by the authority and simplicity with which he wrote about it.  This was a few weeks before a relationship that I’d been in for about 18 months came to a sad end.  For a while afterwards, I retained hope that it might be restored. But eventually realised that this just wasn’t going to happen. But hope, unrealistic though it was, in this case, remained alive in my heart, long after my intellect had accepted the inevitable.

Recently, I was sent an interesting link by Tania, a customer who I’ve been corresponding with, over quite a number of years. A correspondence which is usually based around something I’ve written about the previous week. On this occasion, as a part of the conversation, she'd sent me a link to Julia Samuel’s website, a psychotherapist specialising in grief. Having briefly browsed her website, I elected to subscribe to her weekly emails, and this Monday’s really caught my eye and my imagination.

Julia starts …

"lately, I’ve also been thinking about the other side of hope.

What happens when hope holds us – in a loop that keeps us stuck? When we cling to the hope that something will change, that someone will change, that a circumstance will magically transform… despite everything telling us otherwise?

There are times in life when hope quietly fades. Or when it needs to. When we must grieve the loss of what we hoped for, and turn toward the life that is, rather than the life we imagined. It can be painful – I won’t pretend it isn’t. But it can also be a profound turning point. A re-entry into reality, yes – but also a step toward freedom"

I have been living in that world of hope (hoping we’d get back together). The hope, that by some magic, she would come around to seeing things differently (yes, selfish and unrealistic though this hope was) and we’d be together again. And this, despite my intellect being quite clear that in actual fact, we were not suited enough to be happy together in the long run. Work that one out, if you can. All very odd, contradictory and apparently illogical.

So, now I shall continue to grieve the loss of what I had hoped for, aware that already the feelings are significantly less raw than they were at the beginning. Whilst being prepared for them to come back to bite (which they do from time to time) and start integrating my memory of her into a new reality. Or to put it another way, to accept that the desires and fantasies of the last few months were just that, and to move forward in my current reality or as Julia puts it "make space - not for despair - but for a new kind of hope. A hope rooted in truth, not illusion. A hope that helps you move forward, rather than stay stuck."

* The quote that got me thinking was ... "So, what is hope, and what is hope for? Hope is an emotional temper that emboldens the heart to be active, it is a condition, a mood, an aura of being. It is a feat of the imagination, both courageous and ingenious, a vitality that inspires us to take innovative action to defend the world. Hope is essential to our survival and our flourishing." Ok, to product

KitchenAid Stand Mixers.

I’m sorry to sound like a bit like salesman, but we do happen to have a very good deal on the basic version of the Kitchenaid Stand Mixer (the 125 model*) and there’s a choice of colour to boot, Cream, Silver, Red or Gloss Black, Pistachio and Mineral Water (Pale Blue).

It comes complete with the standard 4.8l Stainless Steel Bowl, Dough Hook, Paddle Beater and a Whisk.

Deal on the machines

So, whether you are a baker, a bread maker, or a candle stick maker, this iconic flexible machine will accomplish two out of the three I’ve just mentioned. And coupled with the myriad extensions/ accessories you can buy for it, you could find yourself grating carrots, making ice-cream, rolling your own lasagne, mincing meat or juicing apples, to name five of the more common jobs that this machine can do.

The standard machine has an impressive list of capabilities but some of these jobs will require accessories that easily fit to the front of the machine.

The price on the Kitchenaid 125 model is currently down from £549 to £359 which is a pretty impressive discount of £190!

The price on the Kitchenaid 175 model is down from £599 to £439, a saving of £160

* As a reminder, the difference between the 125 and the 175, is just the number of attachments included.  The basic machine is the same in both cases.

Father’s Day next Sunday

Yup its Father’s Day coming up, so with this news, if you weren’t already, you’ll now doubtless be scratching you head wondering what to get your dear Dad. Below we’ve listed a number of products below that might just fit the bill.

  • The Meater cooking thermometer, an ingenious piece of Bluetooth cooking gadgetry that will satisfy any tech loving dad.

  • The Classic Butchers Apron, so dad doesn't have to wear mum's flowery kitchen apparel.

  • Stanley Food Jar - Keeps food hot in winter or cool in summer, suitable for any fatherly outing.

  • Robert Welch 8” Cooks knife. (If you’re superstitious about knives as presents, then put a penny in with it and all will be well as soon as the receiver has given you back the coin).

  • Le Creuset Screwpull LM250 Lever Model. My all-time favourite corkscrew. Effortless and works reliably time after time after time.
  • Horl3 Knife Sharpener, a sharpener for the discerning dad, top quality product

All of the above (except the apron - sorry you'll have to improvise) are beautifully packaged, so particularly suitable as presents.

.

I trust you have a pleasant and peaceful weekend.

Warm regards,

Andrew
