Quick Overview: The Le Creuset La Jardin Petite Casserole is a 10cm stoneware individual casserole with a daffodil lid, oven, microwave, grill and dishwasher safe.

The Le Creuset La Jardin Petite Casserole is a charming 10cm stoneware dish from the La Jardin collection, designed for individual portions and striking enough to go straight from the oven to the table. Its most distinctive feature is the daffodil-shaped lid, which makes it a beautiful piece in its own right whether it is in use or simply on display. Made from specialist stoneware in Thailand, it handles temperatures from -23°C up to 260°C, so it moves comfortably from fridge to oven or sits at the table keeping food warm. The scratch-resistant glaze is easy to clean and the whole piece is dishwasher safe, though it is elegant enough that you may prefer to hand wash it. Whether as a gift for a Le Creuset collector or a special addition to your own kitchen, this is a piece that earns its place.

  • Daffodil-Shaped Lid: The lid is sculpted to resemble a daffodil, making the La Jardin Petite Casserole as decorative on display as it is practical in the oven.
  • Individual Portion Size: At 10cm, this casserole is sized for single servings, making it well suited to individual desserts, baked eggs, small gratins, dips and side dishes.
  • Thermoresistant Stoneware: Made from specialist stoneware, the casserole handles temperatures from -23°C to 260°C, so it transitions comfortably from fridge or freezer to oven.
  • Scratch-Resistant Glaze: The glazed stoneware surface resists scratching during everyday use and is straightforward to wipe clean without marking.
  • Oven, Microwave, Grill and Dishwasher Safe: Cleared for use in the oven, under the grill, in the microwave and in the dishwasher, this casserole covers almost every way you might want to cook, reheat or clean it.

What Customers Ask About This Product

Can this casserole be used on the hob?

No, this casserole is not designed for hob use. Le Creuset stoneware is intended for oven, grill and microwave cooking only and should not be placed directly on a gas, electric or induction hob. If you are looking for a Le Creuset piece you can use on the hob, their cast iron range would be worth exploring.

Will the dishwasher affect the glaze or finish over time?

Le Creuset confirms this stoneware is dishwasher safe and the glaze is designed to be durable in everyday conditions. As a general precaution, repeated dishwasher cycles over a long period can gradually dull the surface of any stoneware glaze, so hand washing is a sensible option if you want to keep the finish looking its best. The scratch-resistant glaze makes hand washing easy in any case.

What dishes work well in a 10cm casserole?

The 10cm size suits individual portions of things like baked eggs, crème brûlée, small gratins, individual pot pies, dips and single servings of sauces or side dishes. Its oven-to-table capability makes it especially useful for dishes you want to serve directly in the pot rather than transferring to a separate bowl.

How do I avoid thermal shock with stoneware?

Thermal shock happens when stoneware is exposed to a sudden, drastic change in temperature, which can cause cracking. The main thing to avoid is placing a frozen dish into a preheated oven. Instead, put it in a cold oven and allow the temperature to rise gradually with the dish inside. Similarly, do not set a hot casserole down on a cold or wet surface immediately after removing it from the oven.

In our experience...

Stoneware retains heat well once it is warm. This is one of its most practical qualities for table use. A small stoneware casserole kept warm in the oven for a minute or two before serving will hold its temperature for a good while at the table, which is especially useful for dishes like baked eggs or individual gratins where you want the food still hot when the person starts eating.

Not all Le Creuset is hob-safe. Many people assume that because Le Creuset cast iron works on every heat source, the stoneware range does too. It does not. Stoneware should only go in the oven, under the grill or in the microwave, never directly on a gas, electric or induction hob. It is a surprisingly common point of confusion and worth knowing before you buy.

Le Creuset's themed collections do not always return. Seasonal and garden-inspired collections from Le Creuset have a dedicated following, and specific pieces are not always repeated in future years. If you have been considering a piece from the La Jardin range, it is generally better to buy when you see it rather than wait.

Stoneware and enamelled cast iron behave quite differently in the oven. People sometimes expect stoneware to perform like Le Creuset's famous cast iron, but the two materials are quite different in use. Stoneware heats up more slowly and suits steady, even oven temperatures rather than high-heat cooking or rapid changes. Understanding that difference helps you get the most from both.

The speed of a temperature change matters more than the range. Stoneware can handle an impressive spread of temperatures, but it is sudden transitions rather than extreme highs or lows that cause cracking. Taking a dish from freezer to preheated oven, or resting a hot casserole on a cold wet surface, are the two things most likely to cause damage. Gradual changes are what protect it.

Care & Use Instructions

Before first use: Remove all labels and packaging. Wash in warm, soapy water, then rinse and dry thoroughly before use.

Using in the oven and under the grill: Always use oven gloves when handling a hot casserole. When using under the grill, leave at least 6.5cm between the heat source and the top of the dish. If reheating a dish that is currently at room temperature, do not preheat the oven above 205°C. If adding liquid to a dish already in the oven, remove the dish first and allow it to cool for a few minutes before adding the liquid.

Reheating from cold: Do not place a frozen dish into a preheated oven. Instead, put it in a cold oven and allow the temperature to rise gradually with the dish inside. Always check food is piping hot throughout before serving.

Cleaning: Allow the casserole to cool completely before washing. Wipe away any leftover food from the base and sides. If food is stuck, fill the casserole with warm, soapy water and leave it to soak for 15 to 20 minutes before washing as usual. Wash and dry by hand, or place in the dishwasher for a full cycle.

Rest of the World

If your country is not listed — including the USA, Australia, and other destinations — this is most likely because couriers charge by volumetric weight: a combination of package size and weight that makes standard online rates impractical to calculate automatically.

Please call us on 01737 222996 with the details of your order. We will advise on shipping costs within 24 hours and ask whether you would like to proceed.

Before you order internationally, please note:

All overseas shipments are at your own risk. We recommend taking out appropriate transit insurance to cover any damage in transit.

Customs forms for all international packages declare the full value and a description of the contents. Any customs or import duties levied on arrival in your country are your responsibility. Your local customs office can provide further information.
