Le Creuset SW-100 Sparkling Wine Opener
The Le Creuset SW-100 is designed specifically for opening pressurised bottles of champagne, prosecco, cava, and other sparkling wines. Unlike traditional corkscrews, this opener allows you to control the release of pressure, preventing the uncontrolled "pop" that can send corks flying or cause wine to foam over the bottle.
The opener works by sliding between the cork and bottle neck, giving you a secure grip on the cork whilst you ease it out gradually. This controlled release preserves the wine's carbonation and aromatics better than simply pulling the cork out, which can cause excessive foaming and loss of bubbles.
Key features:
- Controlled cork removal: Allows gradual pressure release rather than explosive popping
- Zamac metal construction: Durable zinc-aluminium alloy provides comfortable weight and corrosion resistance
- Blade insertion design: Slides between cork and bottle for secure grip
- Works with all sparkling wines: Suitable for champagne, prosecco, cava, and similar bottles
- 10 year manufacturer guarantee: Exceptionally long warranty period reflects build quality
This opener is designed for anyone who regularly serves sparkling wine and wants consistent, controlled openings without mess or wasted wine.
What Customers Ask About the SW-100 Sparkling Wine Opener
How is this different from a regular corkscrew?
A sparkling wine opener is designed specifically for the unique challenges of pressurised bottles. Unlike a traditional corkscrew that twists into the cork, this opener slides between the cork and bottle neck, allowing you to grip and ease the cork out whilst controlling the pressure release. This prevents the uncontrolled 'pop' that can cause cork to fly across the room or wine to foam over.
Will this work with champagne bottles?
Yes. Champagne, prosecco, cava, and other sparkling wines all use similar cork formats secured with wire cages. This opener is designed to work with standard sparkling wine corks after you've removed the wire cage and foil.
What is zamac metal and why use it for a wine opener?
Zamac is a zinc-aluminium alloy known for its durability and ability to be precisely die-cast. It's heavier than aluminium but lighter than solid steel, providing a comfortable weight in your hand. The material accepts decorative finishes well and resists corrosion, making it suitable for barware that may be exposed to moisture.
Does this prevent the cork from flying out?
When used correctly, yes. The opener allows you to maintain grip on the cork whilst controlling how quickly you release it. You twist the opener to break the seal, then ease the cork out gradually. The pressure is released in a controlled manner rather than explosively, as would happen if you simply pulled the cork out.
How do you use this opener?
First, remove the foil and wire cage from the bottle. Hold the bottle at a 45-degree angle. Insert the opener blades between the cork and bottle neck by gently working it down whilst rotating slightly. Once fully inserted, twist the handle gently to break the seal, then grip the cork through the opener and ease it out slowly, controlling the pressure release.
Is a 10 year guarantee typical for a wine opener?
No, it's unusually generous. Most wine openers carry 1-2 year guarantees at most. Le Creuset's 10 year guarantee reflects their confidence in the zamac construction and the mechanical simplicity of the design - there are no complex moving parts to fail.

Care & Use Instructions
Before first use: Rinse the opener under warm water and dry thoroughly. Check that the blades move freely and are not damaged.
Using the opener: Always remove the wire cage and foil completely before using. Hold the bottle at a 45-degree angle. Insert the blades between the cork and bottle neck, working gently whilst rotating slightly. Once inserted, twist to break the seal, then ease the cork out slowly to control pressure release.
After each use: Rinse under warm water immediately to prevent wine residue from drying on the metal. Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth. The zamac construction resists corrosion but should not be left wet.
Storage: Store in a dry location. Avoid storing in damp conditions.
Avoid: Do not force the opener if it doesn't slide in easily - the cork may be too tight or swollen. Do not use on non-sparkling wine bottles with standard corks. Do not place in dishwasher.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I've used it and don't like it?
Return it anyway. Our no quibble guarantee covers used items - if it doesn't do what you wanted, we'll refund you. This applies even after you've used it to open several bottles.
How does the Half-Price Replacement guarantee work?
Valid for 2 years from purchase date. If you accidentally break this item, we'll replace it at half price with proof of purchase and evidence of breakage. Photos of the damage are acceptable.
How long does delivery take?
Standard delivery to mainland UK addresses can take up to 7 working days, but is usually 3-4, and is free for orders over £49. Next day delivery may be available for £9.95 on orders placed before 1pm Monday to Thursday, depending on your location and our stock levels. You can also collect from our shops in Cobham or Reigate, or our warehouse in Redhill.
Can I claim on the manufacturer's 10 year guarantee if I bought from you?
Yes. We're an authorised Le Creuset retailer, so the full manufacturer guarantee applies. You can claim through us or directly with Le Creuset. Keep your receipt or order confirmation as proof of purchase.
How do I clean this opener?
Rinse under warm water immediately after use to prevent wine residue from drying on the metal. Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth. The zamac construction is relatively resistant to corrosion, but prolonged exposure to moisture should be avoided.
