What Customers Ask About the Toughened Non-Stick Stir-Fry Pan
What does '4x stronger non-stick' mean?
Le Creuset's Toughened Non-Stick coating has been independently laboratory tested for metal utensil abrasion resistance and is 4 times stronger than their previous non-stick coating. This means improved durability and longevity when using metal utensils with care, though we still recommend wooden or silicone tools to maximise the coating's lifespan.
Can I actually use metal utensils in this pan?
Metal utensils can be used but do so with care. Avoid harsh scraping, cutting, or knocking metal utensils on the rim. Don't use sharp knives, electric beaters, or aggressive stirring that could damage the coating. Whilst the coating is tested for metal utensil resistance, wooden or silicone tools will help it last longer.
Which size should I choose - 26cm or 30cm?
The 26cm (3.4L capacity) serves 2-3 people and suits smaller hobs. The 30cm (4.7L capacity) serves 4-6 people and is better for larger portions or batch cooking. Consider your typical serving sizes and hob ring sizes - larger pans need appropriately sized rings for even heating, particularly important on induction.
What is hard anodised aluminium?
Hard anodising is an electrochemical process that hardens the aluminium surface, making it exceptionally durable and scratch-resistant. This creates efficient heat conduction and distribution for even cooking, whilst the hardened surface resists warping and provides a stable base for the non-stick coating.
Can I cook without oil or fat in this pan?
Yes, the Toughened Non-Stick surface handles all types of frying, even without oil or fat. For fat-free cooking, preheat the pan on medium heat for around 2 minutes before adding food. Don't leave it unattended whilst preheating as overheating a dry non-stick surface can cause damage.
Is this suitable for induction hobs?
Yes, suitable for all hobs including induction. Use an appropriately sized ring that matches the pan base - too small and the hob may not recognise it, too large causes uneven heating. Avoid the 'boost' function on induction hobs; it's designed for rapidly heating large volumes of water, not for cooking.
Understanding Non-Stick Cookware
After 52 years in the cookware business, we've observed how non-stick technology has evolved. Le Creuset's "4x stronger" claim reflects genuine advances - independent laboratory testing for metal utensil abrasion resistance provides meaningful data about durability. However, it's important to understand what this means practically.
The coating is more resistant to scratching from metal utensils compared to previous formulations, but "with care" is crucial. Aggressive scraping, cutting on the surface, or knocking metal implements on the rim will still damage any non-stick coating eventually. We recommend wooden or silicone tools as standard practice - save metal utensils for occasional use when you genuinely need them.
The hard anodised aluminium construction provides an excellent foundation. The anodising process creates a hardened surface layer that's more scratch-resistant than standard aluminium, provides even heat distribution, and resists warping. Combined with the toughened non-stick coating, this creates genuinely durable cookware, but proper care remains essential for longevity.

Care & Use Instructions
Before first use: Remove all labels and packaging. Wash in warm, soapy water, rinse, and dry thoroughly.
Preheating: For best results, preheat on medium heat for 2-3 minutes before adding food. For fat-free cooking, preheat for around 2 minutes on medium heat before adding ingredients. Never leave the pan unattended whilst preheating an empty non-stick surface - overheating can damage the coating.
Heat settings: Cook on medium or low heat for best results, even for frying and searing. The hard anodised aluminium distributes heat efficiently, so high temperatures aren't necessary. If you need higher heat initially, reduce to medium once the desired temperature is reached. Avoid the 'boost' function on induction hobs.
During cooking: We recommend Le Creuset silicone tools or wooden/heat-resistant plastic utensils. Metal utensils can be used with care - avoid harsh scraping, cutting, or knocking them on the pan rim. Never use sharp knives, electric beaters, or any implements that could scratch the coating. The stainless steel helper handle allows secure two-handed lifting when the pan is full.
Hob compatibility: Use an appropriately sized hob ring - this ensures even cooking and prevents handle damage. On induction hobs, wrong-sized rings may prevent the hob from recognising the pan. Never slide the pan on glass-topped hobs; always lift it to prevent damage to both the pan base and the hob surface.
Oven use: Safe to 260°C. With a Le Creuset heat-resistant glass lid, maximum temperature is 220°C (Gas Mark 7). Always place on an oven shelf or rack, never on the oven floor. When using under the grill, maintain at least 5cm gap between the heat source and the pan top. Use oven gloves as both handles will be hot.
Cleaning: Allow the pan to cool for a few minutes before washing. Never plunge hot pans into cold water - excessive temperature changes may damage the product. We recommend hand-washing in warm, soapy water rather than using the dishwasher, as this helps the non-stick surface last longer. Avoid abrasive cleaning agents or stiff brushes. Dry thoroughly after washing.
Storage: Store in a dry place. If stacking with other pans, place a cloth or paper towel between them to protect the non-stick surface.
Important notes: Cooking ingredients with low smoking points at high temperatures can cause staining to the cooking surface. This is cosmetic only and doesn't affect performance. The pan is freezer compatible for storing prepared meals.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I've used it and don't like it?
Return it anyway. Our no quibble guarantee covers used items - if it doesn't do what you wanted, we'll refund you. This applies even after you've cooked with it.
How does the Half-Price Replacement guarantee work?
Valid for 2 years from purchase date. If you accidentally damage this item, we'll replace it at half price with proof of purchase and evidence of damage. Photos are acceptable.
How long does delivery take?
Standard delivery to mainland UK addresses can take up to 7 working days, but is usually 3-4, and is free for orders over £49. Next day delivery may be available for £9.95 on orders placed before 1pm Monday to Thursday, depending on your location and our stock levels. You can also collect from our shops in Cobham or Reigate, or our warehouse in Redhill.
Is this dishwasher safe?
We always recommend hand-washing in warm, soapy water to help the non-stick surface last longer. Dishwasher detergents and high heat can gradually reduce the non-stick coating's effectiveness over time. Hand-washing is gentle and quick for non-stick pans.
Can I use this in the oven?
Yes, oven-safe to 260°C. If using with a Le Creuset heat-resistant glass lid, the maximum temperature is 220°C (Gas Mark 7). Always place on an oven shelf or rack, never on the oven floor. Use oven gloves when handling as the helper handle will be hot.
What's the helper handle for?
The stainless steel helper handle on the opposite side from the main handle allows two-handed lifting. This is particularly useful when the pan is full - the 30cm size weighs 2.08kg empty and considerably more when full of food. The helper handle provides a secure second grip point.
Will the non-stick coating wear off over time?
The Toughened Non-Stick coating is designed for durability, tested to be 4x stronger than previous coatings. With proper care - using appropriate utensils, avoiding overheating, hand-washing, and cooking on medium heat - it should last for years. The lifetime guarantee covers manufacturing defects in the coating.
Can I use this for deep frying?
Whilst you could technically deep fry in this pan, the curved sides make it less than ideal - a dedicated deep pan or wok would be safer. The stir-fry pan is designed for stir-frying with small amounts of oil, sautéing, and braising. The deep curved sides suit tossing ingredients and containing splashes during vigorous stirring.
Why shouldn't I use the boost function on induction hobs?
The boost function is designed for rapidly heating large volumes of water, not for cooking. Using boost can cause uneven heating, potential damage to the pan, and may overheat the non-stick coating. Standard induction settings provide ample heat for cooking with this pan's efficient heat distribution.
Can I use cooking spray in this pan?
Whilst technically possible, many cooking sprays contain additives that can build up on non-stick surfaces over time, reducing performance. If you want to use oil, we recommend brushing or wiping on a small amount of standard cooking oil instead. The pan performs well even without oil for most cooking tasks.
