Robert Welch Palm Satin Pepper Mill - Medium
The Palm Satin Medium Pepper Mill combines Robert Welch's signature fluted design with a subtle brushed satin finish that resists fingerprints and water marks. Crafted from 18/10 stainless steel, this mill brings the distinctive aesthetic of the Palm cutlery collection to your table or kitchen worktop with a refined matte appearance that requires minimal maintenance.
At the heart of this mill is a CrushGrind ceramic mechanism - a Danish-engineered grinding system that adjusts from fine to coarse with a turn of the grey wheel at the top. The ceramic construction resists corrosion and maintains its sharpness over time, unlike metal mechanisms which can dull with use. The top-fill design means you can add peppercorns without dismantling the base mechanism, and the approximately 50g capacity reduces how often you need to refill.
Key features include:
- Fluted Palm design: Brushed satin 18/10 stainless steel with distinctive fluting that matches the Palm cutlery range
- Fingerprint-resistant finish: Satin surface shows fewer marks than mirror-polished alternatives, maintaining a clean appearance
- CrushGrind ceramic mechanism: Adjustable from fine to coarse, designed to maintain performance over years of use
- Top-fill convenience: Refill without unscrewing the base mechanism
- Colour-coded identification: Black collar and base distinguish this as the pepper mill (salt mill has white)
- Lifetime guarantee: Robert Welch's commitment to both materials and mechanism quality
- Gift presentation: Arrives in a gift box, suitable for wedding registries or housewarming presents
The tactile fluted surface provides grip when grinding, whilst the 168mm height offers leverage for efficient operation. Designed for those who value both functionality and visual coherence in their kitchen and dining equipment, particularly suited to those who prefer a subtle satin finish over high-gloss surfaces.
What Customers Ask About the Robert Welch Palm Satin Pepper Mill
What's the difference between Palm Satin and Palm Bright finishes?
Palm Satin has a brushed satin finish with a subtle matte appearance that resists fingerprints and water marks. Palm Bright has a mirror-polished finish with a high-gloss reflective surface. Both have identical dimensions, mechanisms, and functionality - the choice is purely aesthetic preference.
What's the difference between the pepper and salt mills?
The pepper mill has a black collar and base, whilst the salt mill has a white collar and base. This colour coding helps you distinguish between them at the table. Both use the same CrushGrind ceramic mechanism and have identical dimensions.
How much pepper does this hold?
It holds approximately 50g of peppercorns. The top-fill design makes refilling straightforward without needing to unscrew the base mechanism.
Can I adjust the grind size?
Yes, the CrushGrind ceramic mechanism is easily adjustable from fine to coarse. Turn the grey adjusting wheel at the top to change the grind setting whilst using the mill.
Why choose a ceramic mechanism over metal?
Ceramic mechanisms don't corrode or rust when exposed to salt or moisture, making them more durable for long-term use. They also maintain their sharpness without dulling over time, unlike metal mechanisms which can wear down.
Does the satin finish show fingerprints?
No, the brushed satin finish is more resistant to fingerprints and water marks compared to mirror-polished finishes. This makes it easier to maintain a clean appearance with minimal maintenance.
Is this dishwasher safe?
No, the mill should not be submerged in water or placed in the dishwasher as this would damage the internal grinding mechanism. Clean the exterior with a dry microfibre cloth, or dampen slightly for stubborn marks and dry immediately.
What does the lifetime guarantee cover?
Robert Welch provides a lifetime guarantee on the Palm mills, covering manufacturing defects and mechanism failures. This reflects the quality of both the stainless steel construction and the CrushGrind ceramic mechanism.

Care & Use Instructions
Daily cleaning: Clean the exterior with a dry microfibre cloth after use. The brushed satin finish is more forgiving of fingerprints than mirror-polished surfaces, but for stubborn marks, dampen the cloth slightly and dry the mill immediately. Never submerge the mill in water or place it in the dishwasher, as this will damage the internal grinding mechanism.
Refilling: The top-fill design allows you to add peppercorns without dismantling the base. Simply unscrew the top, add approximately 50g of peppercorns, and replace the cap.
Adjusting grind size: Turn the grey adjusting wheel at the top of the mill. Tightening the wheel creates a finer grind, whilst loosening produces a coarser grind. Adjust according to your cooking or serving needs.
Cleaning between spices: If you wish to switch from one type of peppercorn to another, empty the existing contents, add a tablespoon of coarse salt, adjust the grinder to fine, and grind until no more salt emerges. Remove any excess salt before adding new peppercorns.
Deep cleaning the mechanism: For thorough cleaning, unscrew the grey adjusting wheel and carefully remove the ceramic cone, ensuring the spring stays securely in place. Wipe loose dust from the cone with a cloth or brush, then wash in water. Dry thoroughly before replacing - any moisture can affect grinding performance.
Maintenance: The CrushGrind ceramic mechanism requires no lubrication and should maintain its performance over years of use. The lifetime guarantee covers mechanism failures, but proper care ensures optimal function.
