The Dunoon Henley Heelan Coos Mug is built on Henley, one of the largest capacities in the Dunoon range at 0.6 litres, with a comfortable strap handle and gently concave sides. It is decorated with a playful illustrated scene of Highland cows, known as Heelan Coos, alongside rabbits and flowers in a series of poses. The mug is made from fine bone china, handcrafted in Staffordshire using methods refined over three generations within the same family pottery business, and its generous size makes it well suited to a full mug of tea or coffee.

What Customers Ask About This Product
What is a Heelan Coo?
Heelan Coo is a Scots term for a Highland cow, the shaggy-coated cattle breed associated with the Scottish Highlands. The design shows them in a playful, illustrated scene with rabbits and flowers.
How does the Henley shape feel to hold given its larger size?
Henley has a strap handle with gently concave sides, which is designed to keep the mug comfortable and elegant to hold despite its larger 0.6 litre capacity.
Is this mug dishwasher or microwave safe?
Handwashing is recommended to preserve the finish, though this mug has no metallic details, so it can go in the dishwasher or microwave as long as it isn't damaged or cracked.
Who would this mug suit as a gift?
With its playful Highland cow design, this mug would suit anyone with a fondness for Scotland, farm animals, or a more lighthearted, illustrated mug. Its generous capacity also makes it a practical everyday gift.
In our experience...
Heelan Coo is the Scots term for Highland cow. Their long horns and shaggy coats make Highland cattle an instantly recognisable subject, and a popular one for Scottish-themed gifts and homeware.
A concave handle shape spreads weight differently to a strap handle. Henley's gently concave sides are designed to keep the mug feeling elegant rather than bulky, even though it holds one of the larger capacities in the Dunoon range.
Bone china gets its name from its bone ash content. Fine bone china is made by adding bone ash to the clay mixture, which gives the finished piece a distinctive translucency and a lighter weight than standard ceramic of the same size.
Larger capacity mugs have become more popular for tea and coffee at home. As more people make a single large mug rather than multiple smaller cups, ranges like Henley with a 0.6 litre capacity have grown in popularity.
Mixing a single main subject with smaller supporting characters is a common illustration technique. Placing Highland cows alongside rabbits and flowers gives the scene more to look at without competing with the main subject, which helps a design feel busy in a good way rather than cluttered.
