What Customers Ask About This Product
What does the Caprice design feature?
The manufacturer's description confirms the design features exotic birds and flowers in shades of cyan and jade, set against a mottled green background.
What makes the Skye shape different to Dunoon's other mugs?
Skye is a large, teacup-style shape, which gives it a rounder, more statement-like form compared with Dunoon's straighter-sided mugs like Cairngorm or Lomond.
Is this mug dishwasher or microwave safe?
Handwashing is recommended to preserve the finish, though this mug has no metallic details, so it can go in the dishwasher or microwave as long as it isn't damaged or cracked.
Who would this mug suit as a gift?
With its modern, statement design, this mug would suit anyone who prefers a more contemporary look over a traditional floral or pictorial mug.
In our experience...
Teacup-style mugs borrow their shape from traditional teaware. A rounder, wider profile like Skye's gives a mug a softer silhouette than a straight-sided shape, which is part of why it reads as a more modern, statement design.
Cyan and jade sit close together on the colour spectrum. Using closely related shades of blue-green, rather than strongly contrasting colours, gives a design a calmer, more cohesive feel even when the pattern itself is bold.
Bone china gets its name from its bone ash content. Fine bone china is made by adding bone ash to the clay mixture, which gives the finished piece a distinctive translucency and a lighter weight than standard ceramic of the same size.
A mottled background adds texture without competing with the main motif. Rather than a flat block of colour, a mottled background gives a design more depth, while still letting the birds and flowers in the foreground stand out clearly.
Exotic bird illustration is a popular theme in contemporary ceramic design. Birds with striking plumage, rather than native garden species, tend to feature in bolder, more decorative patterns aimed at a modern look.
