Quick Overview: Professional-grade kitchen shears with self-sharpening micro-serrated blades, integrated quick-release spring for one-handed use, and shock absorber for cutting tough materials.

Kuhn Rikon Pro Kitchen Shears

The Kuhn Rikon Pro Kitchen Shears combine Swiss engineering precision with practical design features that address real kitchen challenges. These professional-grade shears feature long, straight handles that provide the leverage needed to cut through tough materials, from raw poultry joints and thick cardboard packaging to garden herbs and flower stems.

The micro-serrated stainless steel blades grip materials firmly, preventing slippage when cutting slippery items like raw chicken skin or thick plastic packaging. An integrated quick-release spring mechanism allows rapid, repetitive cutting with one hand - particularly useful when processing large quantities of herbs or cutting poultry into portions. The self-sharpening blade design maintains cutting performance over time through normal use.

A built-in shock absorber reduces hand fatigue when cutting hard materials, whilst soft-touch handles provide comfortable grip even during extended use. The slimline profile saves drawer space compared to bulkier kitchen shears, and the safety lock keeps blades closed during storage.

Key features:

  • Quick-release spring: Integrated spring mechanism enables rapid one-handed cutting for repetitive tasks
  • Micro-serrated blades: Grip food and materials firmly to prevent slipping during cutting
  • Self-sharpening design: Blades maintain sharpness through regular use without requiring separate sharpening
  • Shock absorber: Built-in cushioning reduces hand strain when cutting hard materials
  • Long straight handles: Provide leverage and force for cutting tougher items
  • Soft-touch grips: Comfortable to hold during extended use
  • Safety lock mechanism: Secures blades closed for safe storage
  • Ambidextrous design: Suitable for both left and right-handed users
  • Slimline profile: Space-efficient storage in kitchen drawers

These shears suit home cooks who want professional-quality cutting performance for kitchen tasks and general household use, from spatchcocking poultry and snipping herbs to opening stubborn packaging and cutting garden flowers.

⚠️ Important Safety Information:

This product features sharp blades. Not suitable for sale to persons under 18 years of age. A signature will be required on delivery. Keep out of reach of children. Always engage the safety lock when not in use. Handle with care to avoid risk of injury.

What Customers Ask About Kuhn Rikon Pro Kitchen Shears

What does the quick-release spring actually do?

The integrated spring automatically reopens the blades after each cut, allowing you to make rapid, repetitive cuts with one hand without manually reopening the shears each time. This is particularly useful when chopping large quantities of herbs, cutting poultry into portions, or snipping flowers. You simply squeeze to cut, release pressure, and the spring reopens the blades ready for the next cut.

How do self-sharpening blades work?

The blades are designed so that their cutting edges make contact during normal opening and closing, which hones the edge through regular use. This doesn't mean they never need sharpening, but it maintains cutting performance for longer compared to standard kitchen shears. The micro-serrated design also helps maintain effective cutting even as the blade gradually wears.

Can these cut through chicken bones?

These shears are designed for cutting through poultry joints, cartilage, and smaller bones typically encountered when spatchcocking chicken or preparing portions. The long handles provide leverage for these tasks. However, they're not designed for cutting through large, dense bones - use a cleaver or heavy-duty poultry shears for those tasks. The shock absorber helps reduce hand strain when cutting through tougher materials.

Why aren't these dishwasher safe?

The lock mechanism and spring system can be damaged by dishwasher detergents and high temperatures, potentially causing them to malfunction. Handwashing takes only moments and ensures the mechanical components continue working properly. The stainless steel construction makes handwashing straightforward - simply wash with warm soapy water, rinse, and dry immediately.

How do I unlock the safety lock?

Press the handles together briefly to disengage the lock mechanism and allow the shears to open. The lock is designed to be easy to release for adults whilst providing secure closure during storage. Always re-engage the lock after use by closing the shears fully until they click into the locked position.

Care & Use Instructions

Before first use: Remove all packaging. Wash the shears in warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and dry immediately with a soft cloth. Test the safety lock mechanism to familiarise yourself with its operation.

Daily cleaning: Hand wash only in warm soapy water immediately after use. Do not place in the dishwasher, as this will damage the lock mechanism and spring system. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately with a soft cloth, paying particular attention to the pivot area where the blades meet to prevent moisture accumulation.

Using the quick-release spring: The spring automatically reopens the blades after each cut. For rapid, repetitive cutting, simply squeeze the handles together to cut, then release pressure - the spring will reopen the blades. This allows efficient one-handed operation for tasks like chopping herbs or cutting through multiple items.

Safety lock operation: To unlock, press the handles together briefly until you feel the lock release. To lock closed after use, close the shears fully until they click into the locked position. Always store with the lock engaged, particularly in households with children.

Maintaining performance: The self-sharpening design maintains the blade edge through normal use. If cutting performance diminishes noticeably over time, the shears can be professionally sharpened. Avoid using the shears for tasks they're not designed for, such as cutting through large, dense bones or metal objects, as this can damage the blade edge.

What to avoid: Never put these shears in the dishwasher. Don't use them to cut through materials harder than they're designed for, such as thick wire or large bones. Don't leave them wet or store whilst damp. Don't attempt to disassemble the mechanism.

Storage: Store with the safety lock engaged in a knife drawer or utensil drawer. The slimline design means they occupy minimal space. Keep out of reach of children at all times. Ensure blades are dry before storing to prevent rust or corrosion.

Safety reminder: These shears feature sharp blades. Handle with care at all times. Keep locked when not in use. Never leave within reach of children. Use appropriate caution when cutting to avoid injury.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I've used them and don't like them?

Return them anyway. Our no quibble guarantee covers used items - if they don't do what you wanted, we'll refund you. This applies even after you've used the shears for food preparation or other tasks.

How does the Half-Price Replacement guarantee work?

Valid for 2 years from purchase date. If you accidentally damage the shears (such as breaking a blade tip or damaging the mechanism), we'll replace them at half the current retail price with proof of purchase and evidence of damage. Photos are acceptable. Normal wear like gradual dulling isn't covered, but accidental breakage is.

How long does delivery take?

Standard delivery to mainland UK addresses can take up to 7 working days, but is usually 3-4, and is free for orders over £49. Next day delivery may be available for £9.95 on orders placed before 1pm Monday to Thursday, depending on your location and our stock levels. You can also collect from our shops in Cobham or Reigate, or our warehouse in Redhill. A signature will be required on delivery due to age-restricted sale.

Why is a signature required on delivery?

These shears feature sharp blades and are not suitable for sale to persons under 18 years of age. A signature is required to verify age-appropriate delivery, as required by law for items with sharp blades.

Can I sharpen these myself if they become dull?

The self-sharpening design maintains the blade edge through normal use for extended periods. If they eventually require sharpening, we recommend professional sharpening to preserve the micro-serrated edge and self-sharpening mechanism. Attempting to sharpen them yourself with standard sharpening tools may damage the specialised blade design.

What's the difference between these and basic kitchen scissors?

Basic kitchen scissors typically lack the quick-release spring, shock absorber, self-sharpening design, and micro-serrated blades featured here. The long handles provide significantly more leverage for tough materials. The combination of these features makes these shears more capable for demanding tasks like spatchcocking poultry or cutting thick cardboard, whilst the spring mechanism makes repetitive tasks faster and less fatiguing.

Will these rust if I don't dry them immediately?

Whilst the stainless steel construction resists rust better than carbon steel, leaving them wet can eventually cause corrosion, particularly in the pivot area where moisture can accumulate. Always dry immediately after washing to maintain the shears in optimal condition and prevent any rust development.

Can left-handed people use these comfortably?

Yes, the ambidextrous design works equally well for left and right-handed users. The handles, spring mechanism, and safety lock function identically regardless of which hand you use, making them fully suitable for left-handed cooks.
