What Customers Ask About Le Creuset Heart Shaped Mugs
Is 220ml the right size for everyday tea and coffee?
Yes, 220ml is a practical everyday size. It holds approximately a standard cup of tea or small Americano with room for milk. If you typically drink large lattes or pint-sized mugs, these may feel modest. The 220ml capacity means drinks stay hot without going cold before finishing.
Are these comfortable to drink from or just decorative?
They're genuinely functional mugs. The handle is well-proportioned and comfortable to hold, whilst the rim is smooth for drinking. The heart shape is visible externally but doesn't affect the drinking experience - the interior is a normal mug shape designed for regular use.
Will the colours fade or stain over time?
The glazed finish is designed to resist both fading and staining with normal use. Le Creuset's high-temperature firing creates a durable surface that maintains its appearance through dishwasher cycles. Tea and coffee shouldn't leave permanent marks with regular washing. The white mug may show tannin staining more readily, but this typically removes with soaking in hot soapy water.
Can I use these in the microwave?
Yes, Le Creuset stoneware is microwave safe. You can reheat drinks or warm milk for hot chocolate directly in these mugs. The stoneware heats evenly and the handle stays relatively cool, though use caution after extended heating. Avoid heating empty mugs.
How do these compare to standard ceramic mugs?
Le Creuset stoneware is fired at higher temperatures than standard ceramics, making it more durable and better at retaining heat. It's more resistant to chipping and thermal shock. These mugs are slightly heavier than inexpensive ceramic mugs, which feels more substantial in hand. The main difference is durability - these should last considerably longer with daily use.
Are these suitable for year-round use or just Valentine's Day?
Use them as often as you like. They're fully functional mugs with heart-shaped decoration. Some people use them daily, others bring them out for Valentine's week, anniversaries, or when they want something cheerful. The colour range works with various table settings beyond specifically Valentine's themes.

Care & Use Instructions
Before first use: Remove all packaging and labels. Wash in hot soapy water or run through the dishwasher, rinse thoroughly, and dry completely.
Daily use: Suitable for hot drinks including tea, coffee, hot chocolate, or herbal infusions. The 220ml capacity is generous without being excessive. The stoneware retains heat well, keeping drinks warmer for longer than standard ceramics. Fill to approximately 1cm below the rim to avoid spills.
Microwave heating: Safe for reheating drinks or warming milk. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring between, to ensure even temperature. The handle stays relatively cool but use caution after extended heating. Never microwave empty mugs.
Cold drinks: Suitable for cold beverages, smoothies, or desserts. The stoneware doesn't impart any flavour and is easy to clean regardless of contents.
Daily cleaning: Dishwasher safe for convenient cleaning. For hand washing, use warm soapy water and a soft cloth or non-abrasive sponge. The glazed surface releases tea and coffee stains easily with regular washing.
Removing tea/coffee stains: If tannin stains build up (particularly on the white mug), soak in hot water with a denture tablet or bicarbonate of soda. For stubborn marks, make a paste with bicarbonate of soda and water, apply, leave for 10 minutes, then rinse. Avoid bleach which may damage the glaze.
Storage: Stack carefully if needed, though the heart shape means they don't nest perfectly. Store with handles facing the same direction to save space. Ensure completely dry before storing to prevent musty smells.
Avoid: Sudden extreme temperature changes - don't pour boiling water into a mug straight from the fridge. Don't use on hobs or direct flame. Avoid abrasive scourers which may scratch the glaze over time.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I've used them and don't like them?
Return them anyway. Our no quibble guarantee covers used items - if they don't do what you wanted, we'll refund you. This applies even after you've drunk from them. We've offered this guarantee since 1972.
How does the Half-Price Replacement guarantee work?
Valid for 2 years from purchase date. If you accidentally chip or break one of these mugs, we'll replace it at half the current retail price with proof of purchase and evidence of damage. Photos are acceptable. This covers accidental breakage but not damage from misuse. Contact us with your proof of purchase and we'll arrange the replacement.
What's covered by the Le Creuset 10-year guarantee?
Le Creuset's manufacturer's guarantee covers manufacturing defects for 10 years from date of purchase. This includes issues with the glaze, structural defects in the stoneware, or problems with the firing. It doesn't cover accidental damage, misuse, or normal wear and tear. Keep your proof of purchase. Claims go through us, and we handle the process with Le Creuset on your behalf.
How long does delivery take?
Standard delivery to mainland UK addresses takes up to 7 working days (usually 3-4) and is free for orders over £49. Next day delivery may be available for £9.95 on orders placed before 1pm Monday to Thursday, depending on your location and our stock levels. You can also collect from our shops in Cobham or Reigate, or our warehouse in Redhill.
Are these suitable as a gift?
Yes, they make a lovely Valentine's Day gift, anniversary present, wedding gift, or housewarming token for couples. The set comes in attractive Le Creuset packaging. At £58.33 (RRP £70) they represent good value for a set of four Le Creuset pieces.
Can I buy individual mugs in specific colours?
These are sold as a set of four with one of each colour. Le Creuset designs these seasonal collections as complete sets. If you prefer a specific colour from the range, it's worth checking if that shade is available in other Le Creuset stoneware items.
Do other Le Creuset Valentine's pieces coordinate with these?
Yes, Le Creuset offers a wider Valentine's Day Collection including Mini Heart Bowls and other items in coordinating colours. The Cerise, Shallot and Peche shades appear across various Le Creuset ranges, so you can build a matching set. Check our Le Creuset section for other available pieces.
Will this work with your price match guarantee?
Yes. If you've seen this identical Le Creuset Valentine's Heart Shaped Mugs set cheaper elsewhere, tell us where. If it's available with our competitor on the day you contact us, we'll match the price. The item must be identical (same set of 4 mugs) and the competitor must be a UK retailer with physical stores.
What's the difference between Le Creuset stoneware and their cast iron?
Cast iron is for stovetop and oven cooking - heavy, excellent heat retention, but needs careful maintenance. Stoneware like these mugs is for serving and oven use - lighter, dishwasher safe, no seasoning needed. Stoneware doesn't work on hobs. Both materials are exceptionally durable, just designed for different purposes.
