The Le Creuset Heritage Square Dish is one of those pieces that earns its place in the kitchen by doing a bit of everything. Made from specialist stoneware clays, it holds heat evenly and steadily, which makes a real difference when you're roasting meat or baking a pudding. The tight-fitting lid keeps moisture and flavour locked in during cooking, and the grooved side handles make it comfortable to carry even with oven gloves on. It goes from freezer to oven to table without complaint, and cleans up easily in the dishwasher. Backed by a 10-year guarantee, this is the kind of dish you buy once and reach for constantly.
- Even heat retention: Made from specialist stoneware clays, this dish maintains a steady, even temperature throughout cooking for consistent results.
- Tight-fitting lid: The lid seals in moisture and flavour during roasting or baking, so your food stays juicy rather than drying out.
- Wide temperature range: Thermoresistant from -23°C to 260°C, so it moves from the freezer to the oven without any fuss.
- Easy-grip handles: Deep grooved side handles give you a secure, comfortable grip when lifting a hot dish out of the oven with gloves on.
- Scratch-resistant glaze: The glazed finish resists scratching and wipes clean easily, so the dish keeps looking good with everyday use.
What Customers Ask About This Product
What size portions does this dish suit?
With a 1.9-litre capacity and 23cm square dimensions, this dish is well suited to meals for two to four people. It works nicely for a small joint of meat, a tray of roasted vegetables, or a family-sized dessert.
Can I use this dish under the grill?
Yes, this dish is grill safe. Le Creuset recommend keeping at least a 6.5cm gap between the heat source and the top of the dish, and always using oven gloves when handling it after cooking.
Is the lid sold separately if I just want the dish?
The lid is included as standard with this dish. If you ever need a replacement lid in the future, Le Creuset sell accessories separately through their own website.
Can I put a frozen dish straight into a preheated oven?
It is best not to. Le Creuset recommend placing the dish in a cold oven and allowing both to heat up together. If the dish is at room temperature rather than frozen, avoid preheating the oven above 205°C before adding it.
In our experience...
Square dishes genuinely earn their keep. A round roaster leaves corners of the oven shelf unused. The square footprint fits more food in one layer, which matters when you want even browning rather than steaming.
The lid is what makes stoneware so forgiving. Cooking with a lid on keeps moisture in, which means you have more leeway with timing. Dishes that would dry out uncovered stay tender for longer, which is reassuring when you're juggling other things.
Stoneware holds heat better than it heats up. It takes a little longer to come to temperature than metal, but once it does it holds heat evenly and steadily. That steady heat is why stoneware bakes and roasts so reliably.
From freezer to oven is a feature worth using. Assembling dishes ahead, freezing them, then cooking straight from frozen is one of the most practical things this dish enables. Just remember to start it in a cold oven rather than a preheated one.
The glaze makes cleaning much less of a chore. Unlike unglazed stoneware or cast iron, the smooth glazed surface does not hold onto food. A soak in warm soapy water deals with anything stuck, and it is fully dishwasher safe too.

Care & Use Instructions
Before first use: Remove all labels and packaging. Wash in warm, soapy water, then rinse and dry thoroughly before using for the first time.
Cooking: Always use oven gloves when handling anything hot. When using under the grill, keep at least a 6.5cm gap between the heat source and the top of the dish. Do not place a frozen dish directly into a preheated oven; instead, place it in a cold oven and allow both to heat up together. If cooking something that is currently at room temperature, do not preheat the oven above 205°C. If you need to add liquid to a dish that is already in the oven, remove the dish first and allow it to cool for a few minutes before adding liquid.
Cleaning: Allow the dish to cool completely before cleaning. Wipe away any food from the base and sides. If anything is stuck, fill the dish with warm, soapy water and leave to soak for 15 to 20 minutes before washing as normal. You can wash by hand or put the dish through a full dishwasher cycle.
