The Le Creuset Signature Cast Iron Sauté Pan with Wooden Handle is built to make frying and sauteing a genuine joy. Its higher sidewalls give you room to cook down liquids, while a stay-cool wooden handle and a large helper handle make it easy to grip and move between the hob and the table. It works beautifully on any hob type, though it is designed for the hob only rather than the oven. The cast iron construction retains heat for even cooking and browning, and its enamel interior develops a natural patina over time that behaves like a non-stick surface.
- Great tasting food: The cast iron construction retains heat for even cooking and browning, and keeps food warmer at the table for longer.
- A helping hand: The helper handle makes it easy to lift and move between the hob and the table.
- Ages gracefully: The enamel interior develops a natural patina that behaves like a non-stick surface, with great food release and less seasoning required.
- Higher sidewalls: Gives you more room for cooking down liquids than a standard frying pan.
- Modern looks: The wooden handle looks stylish and stays cool to the touch.
What Customers Ask About This Product
Can I use this in the oven?
No, this pan is designed for hob use only, not the oven. The wooden handle isn't built to withstand oven heat.
Is it dishwasher safe?
No, keep it out of the dishwasher to protect the wooden handle. Wash it by hand instead.
How should I clean it day to day?
For everyday cleaning, water alone is best, as this helps the natural patina develop on the enamel interior. Warm soapy water is fine for first use or for soaking off stuck-on food.
Is it suitable for induction hobs?
Yes. Just make sure you use it on the most appropriately sized ring, as using the wrong size on an induction hob can mean it doesn't get recognised.
In our experience...
The wooden handle is the reason it's hob only. Unlike Le Creuset's all cast iron pieces, the wood can't safely withstand oven heat, so this one is designed to stay on the hob and move straight to the table.
The patina is meant to build up, not be scrubbed away. Cleaning with just water rather than soap for everyday use helps the enamel interior develop the non-stick like surface it's known for over time.
Higher sidewalls change what you can cook in it. It's built to handle liquids reducing down, not just dry frying, which a shallower pan can't manage as well.
The helper handle matters more once it's full. A pan this size gets heavy with food in it, and the second handle makes it genuinely manageable to lift and carry safely.
Cold water is still the enemy of hot cast iron. Even without an oven safety concern here, plunging a hot pan into cold water risks cracking the enamel, so always let it cool first.

Care & Use Instructions
Before first use: Wash in warm, soapy water, then rinse and dry thoroughly.
While cooking: Always use oven gloves when handling anything hot. Use Le Creuset silicone, wood or heat-resistant plastic tools where possible. Metal utensils can be used with care but shouldn't be used harshly or scraped over the surface. Cook on a medium or low heat and let it heat up gradually, and use the most appropriately sized hob ring, especially on induction.
Glass hobs: Never slide the pan across a glass-topped hob, as this can damage both the base and the glass. Always lift it on, off, or across the surface.
Everyday cleaning and the patina: Clean with water alone where possible, rather than soap, to help the enamel interior develop its natural non-stick patina over time.
Cleaning stuck-on food: Let it cool before cleaning. Wipe off any leftovers, and soak stuck-on food in warm soapy water for 15 to 20 minutes before washing. Avoid abrasive cleaners, metal scourers or stiff brushes. Dry well and store in a dry place.
Washing: Keep it out of the dishwasher to protect the wooden handle. Handwash only.
