The Le Creuset Silicone Counter Protector is a larger alternative to the Round Cool Tool, designed for roasting tins, oval casseroles, and gratin dishes that need more than a 20cm round trivet can provide. The 29cm square surface is heat resistant to 250 degrees C, keeping kitchen and dining surfaces safe from hot cookware whilst gripping both the surface beneath and the dish above with its non-slip silicone. Freezer compatible and dishwasher safe, it is equally useful under cold dishes straight from the fridge as under something hot from the oven.
- Large 29cm square footprint: The generous rectangular surface accommodates roasting tins, large oval casseroles, and gratin dishes that a round trivet would not fully support.
- Heat resistant to 250 degrees C: High-performance silicone rated to 250 degrees C protects kitchen and dining surfaces from hot cookware placed directly on them.
- Non-slip on both surfaces: Silicone grips both the surface beneath and the base of cookware placed on top, keeping dishes stable during serving and preventing the trivet from sliding.
- Freezer compatible down to -23 degrees C: Suitable for use with both hot and cold items, protecting surfaces from heat and from condensation or cold contact from chilled dishes.
- Dishwasher safe and flat for storage: Goes in the dishwasher for cleaning and lays flat for easy storage in a drawer or cupboard.
What Customers Ask About This Product
Will this protect my dining table from a very hot casserole?
The Counter Protector significantly reduces heat transfer from a hot dish to the surface beneath, but it does not provide total heat insulation. For most dining tables and kitchen surfaces it offers good protection, but exercise particular care on lacquered, antique, or very delicate surfaces.
What is the difference between this and the Round Cool Tool?
The Counter Protector is square at 29cm across and is designed for larger dishes, roasting tins, and oval casseroles. The Round Cool Tool is 20cm in diameter and is better suited to standard-sized round pots and pans. The Counter Protector also works as an anti-slip mat and pot holder, but does not serve as a jar opener in the way the Round Cool Tool does.
In our experience...
The rectangular shape serves a different purpose to the Round Cool Tool. A round trivet suits a single pot or casserole. The rectangular Counter Protector is better for roasting tins, large gratin dishes, or situations where you need to rest multiple items side by side.
Heat-resistant does not mean heat-proof. The silicone protects surfaces from heat transferred through a dish or pan base, but it is not a substitute for an oven glove when handling something directly from the oven. Use it to protect the surface beneath.
The non-slip surface keeps dishes stable during serving. A heavy casserole on a smooth dining table can slide when people serve from it. The Counter Protector grip keeps the dish in place, which is particularly useful at the table.
Freezer compatible means it can be used as a mat under frozen or chilled items. As well as protecting from heat, the Counter Protector can be used under cold items directly from the freezer, protecting surfaces from condensation and cold contact.
It cleans in the dishwasher or with a quick wipe. Silicone does not absorb food residue or grease in the way that fabric trivets do. A wipe with a damp cloth after use is usually sufficient, and it goes in the dishwasher when a more thorough clean is needed.
