What Customers Ask About This Product
How does a butter crock keep butter soft without refrigeration?
The airtight ceramic seal and a small amount of water in the base keep butter at a stable, spreadable temperature while protecting it from air.
How much butter does it hold?
0.17L, enough for a standard block of butter.
In our experience...
Butter crocks solve a problem that predates refrigeration entirely. They're genuinely a Middle Ages solution, using an airtight seal rather than cold temperature to stop butter spoiling.
An airtight seal is what keeps butter spreadable, not just fresh. It's specifically the seal that keeps the butter at a stable temperature, so it stays soft enough to spread straight from the crock.
A traditional design still needs modern stoneware durability. The shape is inspired by historic crocks, but it's made from the same scratch-resistant, strong stoneware as the rest of our range.
Keeping butter out of the fridge changes how it behaves day to day. Butter left at room temperature in a crock stays consistently spreadable, rather than going hard and soft with every fridge trip.
Size matters more than it looks for a butter crock. At 0.17L, it's genuinely sized for a standard block of butter, rather than needing to be refilled constantly.

Care & Use Instructions
Before first use: Enjoy unboxing your new purchase, and make sure to remove the labels and packaging. Wash your Le Creuset product in warm, soapy water, then rinse and dry thoroughly.
Cooking: Always use oven gloves when handling anything hot. When using under the grill, always allow at least a 6.5cm (2 1/2 inch) gap between the heat source and the top of your product. Don't put a frozen dish of food in a preheated oven, instead place it in a cold oven, set the temperature and allow the two to heat up together, and always check food is piping hot throughout before serving. If you want to heat a dish that's currently at room temperature, don't preheat your oven above 205℃ (400℉). If you're adding liquid to a dish in the oven, take the dish out and allow it to cool for a few minutes first.
Cleaning: Wait for your product to cool down before you start cleaning it. Wipe any leftovers off the base and sides, and if there's food stuck on, fill with warm, soapy water and let it soak for 15 to 20 minutes before washing as usual. Wash and dry by hand, or pop it in the dishwasher for a full cycle.
