Quick Overview: Smeg KLF03 1.7L jug kettle with soft-opening lid, stainless steel limescale filter, 3000W and 360-degree swivel base. Available in 13 colours.

The Smeg KLF03 is a 1.7-litre jug kettle that balances a recognisable retro silhouette with practical everyday features. The soft-opening lid lifts gently and channels condensation back into the kettle rather than onto the worktop, and the limescale filter in the spout is made from stainless steel and can be removed for cleaning. At 3000W it boils quickly, switching off automatically at 100 degrees C, and the 360-degree swivel base lets you pick it up from any angle. An integrated cable tidy and anti-slip feet keep things neat and stable on the counter. Available across thirteen colours spanning gloss and matte finishes, so it sits as comfortably in a colourful kitchen as a neutral one.

  • Soft-opening lid: The lid opens gently rather than snapping back, and is designed so that any condensation runs back into the kettle rather than dripping onto the worktop or your hand.
  • Stainless steel limescale filter: A removable and washable stainless steel filter in the pouring spout catches limescale particles before they reach your cup and can be taken out for cleaning separately.
  • 3000W concealed heating element: The 3000W element is concealed in the base rather than exposed in the body, making it easier to keep clean and reducing the surface area on which limescale can build up.
  • 360-degree swivel base with cable tidy: The kettle can be placed on the base in any orientation and lifted from any angle, with an integrated 1-metre cable tidy to keep the worktop clear.
  • 1.7-litre capacity with water level indicator: The 1.7-litre capacity is enough for approximately seven cups in a single boil, with a water level indicator on the side so you can fill accurately without overfilling.

What Customers Ask About This Product

Is this kettle compatible with induction hobs?

No. The KLF03 is an electric kettle with its own heating element and base station. It is not designed to be used on any hob, induction or otherwise.

What is the difference between the standard and matte finishes?

The standard gloss finishes (Black, Cream, Pastel Blue, Pastel Green, Pink, Red, Slate Grey, and Stainless Steel) are priced at £149.95. The matte finishes (Matte Black, Matte Emerald Green, Matte Storm Blue, and Matte White) and White are priced at £189.95. The finishes are otherwise the same kettle in terms of features and performance.

How do I clean the limescale filter?

Remove the stainless steel filter from the spout and rinse it under running water. In hard water areas it is worth doing this regularly. For heavier limescale build-up, soaking briefly in a citric acid or proprietary descaler solution before rinsing is effective.

Does the soft-opening lid lock shut during use?

Yes. The lid closes securely for use and boiling, and the soft-opening mechanism engages when you press the release button to open it. It does not spring open on its own during operation.

In our experience...

The concealed element makes a practical difference to cleaning. Traditional kettles with an exposed coil element are harder to descale because limescale builds up directly on the heating surface and is difficult to remove without soaking. A concealed element in the base means limescale accumulates on a flat surface instead, which is considerably easier to deal with.

The soft-opening lid is more useful than it sounds. Most jug kettles have lids that either flip back hard or need to be held open while filling. The Smeg lid opens gently and stays open, and the condensation channel means you do not get a drip of water on your hand or the worktop when you open it after boiling.

Colour choice matters more for a kettle than for most kitchen appliances. A kettle sits on the worktop permanently, so it becomes part of the kitchen's visual character in a way that a food processor stored in a cupboard does not. The KLF03's range is wide enough that it can either complement an existing colour scheme or become a deliberate accent piece.

Matte finishes show fingerprints less than gloss on darker colours. On darker gloss finishes like Black, fingerprints and water marks are more visible and require more frequent wiping to keep the surface looking clean. The matte version of the same colour tends to be more forgiving in everyday use, which is partly why the matte range commands a higher price.

1.7 litres is the practical maximum for most households but not always the most efficient. Boiling more water than you need wastes energy and time. The water level indicator makes it straightforward to fill only what you need for the number of cups you are making, which is worth getting into the habit of using from the start.

Care & Use Instructions

Limescale filter: Remove the stainless steel filter from the spout regularly and rinse under running water. In hard water areas, clean more frequently. For heavier deposits, soak briefly in a citric acid or descaler solution before rinsing.

Descaling the kettle: Descale periodically using a proprietary kettle descaler or citric acid solution. Fill to the minimum level, run the descaler solution, then rinse thoroughly with fresh water before using again. Avoid vinegar, which can leave a residual taste.

Exterior cleaning: Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth. On gloss finishes, a soft dry cloth will remove fingerprints and water marks. On matte finishes, avoid abrasive cloths that could affect the surface.

What to avoid: Do not immerse the base station in water. Do not fill above the maximum 1.7-litre level. Do not operate the kettle without water in it.

Rest of the World

If your country is not listed — including the USA, Australia, and other destinations — this is most likely because couriers charge by volumetric weight: a combination of package size and weight that makes standard online rates impractical to calculate automatically.

Please call us on 01737 222996 with the details of your order. We will advise on shipping costs within 24 hours and ask whether you would like to proceed.

Before you order internationally, please note:

All overseas shipments are at your own risk. We recommend taking out appropriate transit insurance to cover any damage in transit.

Customs forms for all international packages declare the full value and a description of the contents. Any customs or import duties levied on arrival in your country are your responsibility. Your local customs office can provide further information.
