Quick Overview: A PFAS-free ceramic non-stick saucepan in forged heavy-gauge aluminium, induction-compatible and oven safe to 280°C, with a 10-year Le Creuset guarantee.

The Le Creuset Essential Non-stick Ceramic Saucepan is a reliable everyday pan for sauces, soups, poaching, and reheating. The forged heavy-gauge aluminium body distributes heat evenly and holds it efficiently, which makes a real difference when you are simmering at lower temperatures and need a consistent result across the base. The ceramic non-stick coating is made without PFAS, applied throughout, and releases food cleanly with little or no added oil. Available in 16cm, 18cm, and 20cm, and compatible with every hob type including induction, it is a straightforward, well-made pan that does exactly what it promises.

  • PFAS-free ceramic coating: Applied throughout the pan, the ceramic non-stick surface is made without per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances and releases food cleanly with little or no added oil.
  • Even heat distribution: The forged heavy-gauge aluminium body spreads heat evenly and retains it efficiently, reducing the likelihood of hot spots when simmering or poaching at lower temperatures.
  • All-hob compatibility: A fully encased stainless steel disc base makes this saucepan suitable for gas, electric, ceramic glass, and induction hobs.
  • Oven safe to 280°C: The pan can transfer from hob to oven at up to 280°C, or up to 220°C when used with a heat-resistant Le Creuset glass lid.
  • 10-year guarantee: Le Creuset backs this saucepan with a 10-year guarantee against manufacturing defects, activated by registering your product on the Le Creuset website.

What Customers Ask About This Product

Which size should I choose?

The 16cm suits smaller portions, single sauces, and solo cooking. The 18cm is the most versatile of the three and handles most everyday jobs for one or two people. The 20cm works well for larger batches, family soups, or when you are cooking pasta sauces for three or more.

Can I use metal utensils in this pan?

Le Creuset states the coating is designed to withstand significant force penetration, so metal utensils are permitted. Using silicone or wooden utensils will help maintain the coating's condition over time, particularly around the edges.

Is this dishwasher safe?

Le Creuset generally recommends hand washing for non-stick cookware to preserve the coating. Check the care guide included with your pan, or get in touch if you are unsure.

How does the ceramic coating compare to a traditional non-stick saucepan?

Ceramic coatings are made without PFAS, which some people prefer for health or environmental reasons. They work well at moderate temperatures and are well suited to the kind of gentle simmering a saucepan is typically used for. Avoiding sudden temperature changes and not preheating an empty pan will help the coating last.

In our experience...

The 18cm is the size most people reach for. In our experience, the 18cm saucepan ends up being the workhorse of the three. It is large enough for most everyday jobs but not so large that it feels unwieldy for a simple sauce or a couple of portions of vegetables.

Ceramic coatings suit saucepan use particularly well. Saucepans spend most of their time at moderate, sustained temperatures, which is exactly where ceramic non-stick surfaces perform at their best. You are less likely to run into the high-heat limitations that can affect ceramic coatings in frying pans.

A little oil or butter still makes a difference. Even with a quality non-stick surface, adding a small amount of fat when making sauces improves the flavour and helps the coating stay in good condition over time.

Capacity matters as much as diameter. The 16cm pan holds 1.9 litres, which is enough for a portion of soup or a small sauce but can feel limiting if you are cooking for more than one. If you regularly cook for two or more, the 20cm at 3.8 litres gives you much more headroom.

Induction hob users should check base diameter against ring size. For efficient heating on induction, the base diameter of the pan should match the ring size on your hob as closely as possible. The base diameters for each size are listed in the specs below.

Care & Use Instructions

Before first use: Wash the pan in warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and dry before cooking for the first time.

Daily washing: Hand washing with warm soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge is recommended to preserve the ceramic coating. Avoid abrasive scourers or steel wool.

Temperature guidance: Start on a moderate heat and build up gradually rather than using full power immediately. Do not plunge a hot pan into cold water, as sudden temperature changes can affect the coating over time.

Utensils: The pan is rated as metal utensil safe, but using silicone or wooden utensils will help maintain the coating's condition, particularly when stirring at the sides of the pan.

Storage: If stacking pans, place a soft cloth or pan protector between them to prevent surface scratching.

It is not currently possible to deliver to the Republic of Ireland or mainland Europe. We hope to reinstate this service as soon as possible and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Rest of the World

If your country is not listed — including the USA, Australia, and other destinations — this is most likely because couriers charge by volumetric weight: a combination of package size and weight that makes standard online rates impractical to calculate automatically.

Please call us on 01737 222996 with the details of your order. We will advise on shipping costs within 24 hours and ask whether you would like to proceed.

Before you order internationally, please note:

All overseas shipments are at your own risk. We recommend taking out appropriate transit insurance to cover any damage in transit.

Customs forms for all international packages declare the full value and a description of the contents. Any customs or import duties levied on arrival in your country are your responsibility. Your local customs office can provide further information.
