Le Creuset Toughened Non-Stick Sauté Pan with Glass Lid 26cm
The Le Creuset Toughened Non-Stick Sauté Pan combines the wide, flat base of a frying pan with higher sides that prevent splattering and accommodate larger volumes of food. The 26cm diameter provides ample cooking surface for quick, light frying in minimal fat, whilst the straight sides contain foods during vigorous stirring or tossing. The reinforced non-stick coating resists damage better than standard non-stick surfaces, offering forgiveness when heat levels aren't perfectly controlled.
The tempered glass lid transforms the pan's versatility—use it uncovered for quick sautéing and browning, or add the lid to cook food more slowly, trap moisture, or finish dishes in a lower, gentler heat. The ergonomic main handle provides comfortable control, whilst a helper handle on the opposite side enables safe, secure lifting when the pan is full or heavy.
Key features:
- Reinforced non-stick coating: More resilient than standard non-stick, tolerating brief exposure to higher heat without immediate damage
- Wide, flat base: 26cm diameter provides generous surface area for quick frying, searing, and browning in relatively little fat
- High straight sides: Prevent splattering and spilling during cooking, accommodate larger volumes than standard frying pans
- Tempered glass lid: Allows visual monitoring without removing lid, retains heat and moisture for slower cooking methods
- Dual handles: Ergonomic main handle plus helper handle provide secure lifting when pan is full or heavy
- Even heat conduction: Base design distributes heat quickly and uniformly, reducing hot spots
- All hob compatibility: Suitable for gas, electric, ceramic, halogen, and induction hobs
This sauté pan suits cooks seeking versatility in a single pan—from quick weeknight stir-fries to slow-braised dishes requiring a lid, from shallow frying to cooking larger batches that would overflow a standard frying pan.
What Customers Ask About Le Creuset Toughened Non-Stick Sauté Pan
What's the difference between a sauté pan and a frying pan?
Sauté pans feature higher, straight sides (typically 6-8cm) compared to frying pans' lower, flared sides. The straight sides prevent liquid and food from spilling during vigorous stirring or tossing, making sauté pans better for dishes with sauces or larger volumes of food. The wider base still allows for the quick, high-heat cooking that "sauté" implies, but the higher sides add versatility for braising, poaching, or cooking dishes that generate liquid.
How resilient is the "toughened" non-stick coating?
Le Creuset's reinforced coating withstands higher temperatures and more robust use than standard non-stick surfaces. It tolerates brief exposure to higher heat if you accidentally leave it unattended, and resists scratching better than basic non-stick. However, it's not indestructible—avoid metal utensils, excessive heat, and abrasive cleaning to maximise lifespan. The coating should last years with proper care rather than months like budget non-stick pans.
Why does this pan have two handles?
The 26cm pan becomes quite heavy when filled with food and liquid. The helper handle (small grab handle opposite the main handle) allows you to lift the pan safely with two hands, distributing weight and reducing strain. This is particularly useful when transferring the pan to the oven, pouring contents into serving dishes, or simply moving a full pan on the hob.
Can I use this pan in the oven?
Check the specific temperature limits in the manufacturer's documentation, but Le Creuset TNS pans are typically oven safe to moderate temperatures. The glass lid has its own temperature limit, usually lower than the pan itself. Always verify the exact limits for your specific pan before oven use, and remember that handles will become extremely hot in the oven.
Is 26cm large enough for a family?
A 26cm sauté pan typically serves 3-4 people comfortably, or 2 people with generous portions. The high sides provide more capacity than a 26cm frying pan, so you can cook larger batches of food with sauce or liquid. For families of 5+, you might want a 28cm or 30cm sauté pan, though the 26cm works well for side dishes or when cooking in batches.
What Our Customers Tell Us
Customer reviews consistently highlight three key themes. First, the quality and durability of construction. One customer notes the pan is "well made and should last a long time," whilst another describes it as "brilliant quality." This aligns with Le Creuset's reputation for cookware that outlasts budget alternatives.
Second, customers particularly appreciate the versatility. One reviewer describes it as "so versatile," and the non-stick surface receives specific praise as "absolutely brilliant." This versatility stems from the sauté pan design—it handles tasks typically requiring multiple pans, from quick frying to slow cooking with the lid.
Third, several customers mention the pan's weight, noting that "handles on both sides helps as the pan is fairly heavy." This isn't a complaint but rather confirmation that the helper handle serves its purpose. The weight indicates substantial construction rather than thin, lightweight materials that warp or conduct heat unevenly.
In our 52 years selling cookware, we've observed that customers who choose Le Creuset typically prioritise longevity and performance over initial cost. The Toughened Non-Stick range occupies an interesting position—it offers Le Creuset's build quality and design at a more accessible price point than their signature enamelled cast iron, whilst the non-stick surface provides convenience for everyday cooking.

Care & Use Instructions
Before first use: Wash with warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and dry. Lightly oil the non-stick surface with a paper towel and cooking oil before first use to season the coating.
Daily cleaning: Allow the pan to cool before washing—thermal shock can damage non-stick coatings. Hand wash with warm soapy water and a soft sponge or cloth. Avoid abrasive scourers, steel wool, or harsh cleaning products which can scratch the non-stick surface. Dry thoroughly before storing.
Dishwasher use: Whilst dishwasher safe, hand washing extends the non-stick coating's lifespan. Dishwasher detergents can be harsh on non-stick surfaces over time, gradually reducing their effectiveness.
Heat settings: Use low to medium heat for most cooking. Non-stick pans conduct heat efficiently, so you don't need high temperatures. Excessive heat damages non-stick coatings, causing them to break down prematurely. Never heat an empty non-stick pan.
Utensils: Use wooden, silicone, or plastic utensils. Avoid metal utensils which can scratch even reinforced non-stick coatings. Sharp knives should never be used in the pan—cut food on a chopping board before cooking.
Cooking spray: Avoid aerosol cooking sprays which can leave residue that builds up on non-stick surfaces and becomes difficult to remove. Use a small amount of butter, oil, or solid fat instead.
Glass lid care: The tempered glass lid is dishwasher safe but hand washing prevents clouding over time. Ensure the steam vent remains clear—blocked vents can cause pressure buildup. Check that the lid's silicone or metal rim remains intact and undamaged.
Storage: Store the pan with a pan protector or soft cloth between it and other cookware to prevent scratching. Hang the pan if possible to avoid stacking weight on the non-stick surface. Store the glass lid separately to prevent accidental damage.
Restoring non-stick performance: If food begins sticking, wash the pan thoroughly, dry it, then lightly oil the surface with a paper towel. Heat on low for 1-2 minutes, allow to cool, then wipe away excess oil. This can rejuvenate the non-stick properties.

Frequently Asked Questions
What if I've used the pan and don't like it?
Return it anyway. Our no quibble guarantee covers used items - if it doesn't perform as you hoped or doesn't suit your cooking style, we'll refund you. This applies even after you've cooked multiple meals. We've offered this guarantee since 1972 because we believe customers shouldn't take a risk when purchasing cookware.
How does the Half-Price Replacement guarantee work?
Valid for 2 years from purchase date. If you accidentally damage the pan (for example, dropping and denting it, or damaging the non-stick coating through misuse), we'll replace it at half the current retail price with proof of purchase and evidence of damage. Photos are acceptable.
How long does delivery take?
Standard delivery to mainland UK addresses can take up to 7 working days, but is usually 3-4, and is free for orders over £49. Next day delivery may be available for £9.95 on orders placed before 1pm Monday to Thursday, depending on your location and our stock levels. You can also collect from our shops in Cobham or Reigate, or our warehouse in Redhill.
Does Le Creuset offer a warranty on this pan?
Le Creuset typically provides a manufacturer's warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. The warranty doesn't cover damage from misuse, accidents, or normal wear including gradual degradation of the non-stick coating over time. Check the warranty documentation included with your pan for specific terms and duration.
How long will the non-stick coating last?
With proper care—using appropriate heat levels, wooden or silicone utensils, and gentle cleaning—the coating should last several years of regular use. Le Creuset's reinforced coating lasts significantly longer than budget non-stick pans. Factors affecting lifespan include heat exposure, utensil choice, cleaning methods, and cooking frequency.
Can I use metal utensils occasionally?
We recommend avoiding metal utensils entirely. Whilst the reinforced coating is more scratch-resistant than basic non-stick, metal utensils will eventually damage it. Even occasional use creates small scratches that accumulate over time, reducing the coating's effectiveness and potentially creating areas where food sticks.
What's the best way to cook with minimal oil in this pan?
The non-stick coating enables cooking with very little fat. For most foods, a light coating of oil or butter is sufficient—brush or wipe it across the surface rather than pouring. Preheat the pan on medium heat before adding food. The better the non-stick coating, the less fat required, but some fat often improves flavour and browning.
Can I sear meat in this pan?
Yes, though non-stick pans aren't ideal for high-heat searing that creates restaurant-quality crusts. For everyday searing, use medium-high heat—hot enough to brown the meat but not so hot that it damages the non-stick coating. For maximum crust development on steaks, a stainless steel or cast iron pan achieves better results, but this sauté pan handles moderate searing perfectly well.
Is the glass lid oven safe to the same temperature as the pan?
No, glass lids typically have lower oven-safe temperature limits than the pan itself. Check the specific limits in your pan's documentation. The glass can withstand moderate oven temperatures, but extreme heat can cause thermal stress. If you need to cook at high oven temperatures, consider removing the lid or using an alternative covering.
Why should I choose this over a stainless steel sauté pan?
The non-stick coating offers easier food release and simpler cleaning—particularly useful for delicate foods like fish or eggs that tend to stick to stainless steel. You'll use less fat when cooking, and cleanup requires less scrubbing. The trade-off is that non-stick coatings eventually wear out whilst stainless steel lasts indefinitely, and non-stick can't handle the very high heat that stainless steel tolerates. Choose based on whether convenience or absolute longevity matters more for your cooking style.
