Quick Overview: Traditional stoneware teapot with 1.3L capacity (4 cups), stay-cool curved handle, locking lid, and drip-resistant spout with 10 year guarantee.

Le Creuset Stoneware Classic Teapot

The Le Creuset Classic Teapot brings traditional tea service together with practical design refinements. The 1.3-litre capacity holds approximately four traditional teacups (or three generous mugs), making it ideal for serving 2-4 people whether you're enjoying a morning brew or afternoon tea with guests. Made from Le Creuset's specialist stoneware clays, the teapot maintains even temperature to keep your tea warm whilst you pour.

The large, elegantly curved handle stays cool to the touch during pouring, providing comfortable grip without the need for a tea towel. A locking lid prevents spills and stays securely in place when you tip the teapot, whilst the drip-resistant spout ensures clean pouring without drips running down the exterior. Le Creuset's signature three-ring design coordinates with their cast iron cookware for a cohesive collection.

Key features include:

  • 1.3L Capacity: Holds approximately 4 traditional teacups or 3 generous mugs
  • Stay-Cool Handle: Large curved handle remains cool during pouring
  • Locking Lid: Stays securely attached to prevent spills when pouring
  • Drip-Resistant Spout: Clean pouring without exterior drips
  • Specialist Stoneware: Even temperature maintenance and heat retention
  • Three-Ring Design: Signature Le Creuset detail coordinates with other pieces
  • Scratch-Resistant Glaze: Easy to clean, won't absorb odours or flavours
  • Available in Multiple Colours: Coordinate with existing Le Creuset pieces
  • 10 Year Guarantee: Extended warranty coverage

This teapot is designed for tea enthusiasts who want reliable daily performance combined with the design quality and durability of Le Creuset's tableware range.

What Customers Ask About the Classic Teapot

What does 4 cups capacity mean - is that 4 mugs?

The 1.3-litre capacity translates to approximately 4 traditional teacups (around 300-325ml each). Modern mugs are typically larger (350-400ml), so this teapot would fill about 3 generous mugs. The capacity is ideal for serving 2-4 people depending on cup size and whether you like refills.

Does this teapot have a built-in infuser or strainer?

No it does not. If you use loose leaf tea we recommend using a separate infuser, use tea bags or strain the tea while pouring.

Will the handle stay cool when I pour boiling water?

Le Creuset states the large curved handle stays cold to the touch as you pour. Stoneware conducts heat slowly, so the handle remains comfortable for pouring freshly brewed tea. However, if you warm the teapot extensively (such as leaving it on a warming plate), the handle may eventually conduct some heat.

What does 'locking lid' mean?

A locking lid stays securely in place during pouring, preventing it from falling off or sliding. This design feature guards against spills when you tip the teapot to pour, ensuring the lid remains attached. It's particularly useful when the teapot is full and heavier.

Can I use this on the hob to heat water?

No, stoneware teapots are not designed for direct heat on hobs. Heat your water in a kettle and pour it into the teapot for brewing. The stoneware is oven-safe to 260°C if you need to warm the teapot, but direct hob contact could cause cracking.

How do I prevent tannin staining inside the teapot?

Rinse the teapot promptly after use and wash with warm, soapy water. For stubborn tannin staining, soak in a solution of bicarbonate of soda and warm water for 15-20 minutes before washing. The glazed stoneware is stain-resistant, but regular cleaning prevents buildup. Avoid using bleach or harsh abrasives.

Care & Use Instructions

Before first use: Remove all labels and packaging. Wash your teapot in warm, soapy water, then rinse and dry thoroughly.

Warming the teapot: For optimal brewing, warm the teapot before adding tea. Pour boiling water into the empty teapot, swirl it around for 30 seconds, then discard. This preheating prevents the tea from cooling too quickly when you add fresh boiling water. The stoneware retains heat well once warmed.

Brewing tea: Add your preferred amount of loose tea (using a separate infuser if desired) or tea bags. Pour freshly boiled water over the tea and replace the lid. Allow to steep according to tea type - typically 3-5 minutes for black tea, 2-3 minutes for green tea. The stoneware maintains even temperature during steeping.

Pouring: The stay-cool handle remains comfortable to grip when pouring freshly brewed tea. The locking lid stays securely in place, whilst the drip-resistant spout ensures clean pouring. Tip the teapot smoothly to pour - don't worry about the lid falling off.

Cleaning: Allow the teapot to cool before washing. Rinse promptly after use to prevent tannin staining. Wash with warm water and washing-up liquid. For stubborn tannin stains, soak in a bicarbonate of soda solution (1-2 tablespoons per litre of warm water) for 15-20 minutes before washing. Avoid abrasive cleaners or stiff brushes that could damage the glaze. Whilst dishwasher-safe, we recommend hand-washing to preserve the exterior finish. Dry thoroughly before storing.

Storage: Store in a cupboard with the lid slightly ajar to allow air circulation and prevent any moisture buildup inside. Ensure the teapot is completely dry before storing.

Not for hob use: Never place the teapot directly on a hob or other direct heat source. Use a kettle to heat water and pour into the teapot for brewing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I've used it and don't like it?

Return it anyway. Our no quibble guarantee covers used items - if it doesn't do what you wanted, we'll refund you. This applies even after you've brewed tea in it.

How does the Half-Price Replacement guarantee work?

Valid for 2 years from purchase date. If you accidentally break this item, we'll replace it at half price with proof of purchase and evidence of breakage. Photos of the damage are acceptable.

How long does delivery take?

Standard delivery to mainland UK addresses can take up to 7 working days, but is usually 3-4, and is free for orders over £49. Next day delivery may be available for £9.95 on orders placed before 1pm Monday to Thursday, depending on your location and our stock levels. You can also collect from our shops in Cobham or Reigate, or our warehouse in Redhill.

Is this dishwasher safe?

Yes, Le Creuset stoneware is dishwasher-safe for full cycles. However, we recommend hand-washing to preserve the glaze's lustre over time. For a teapot, hand-washing is straightforward - rinse after use and wash with warm, soapy water.

Should I warm the teapot before brewing?

Warming the teapot helps maintain water temperature for optimal tea brewing. Pour boiling water into the empty teapot, swirl it around for 30 seconds, then discard before adding tea and fresh boiling water. The stoneware retains heat well once warmed.

Can I use this for coffee or other hot beverages?

Yes, whilst designed as a teapot, the stoneware is suitable for any hot beverage. The glazed interior won't absorb flavours or odours, so you can use it for herbal infusions, coffee, or hot chocolate. Wash thoroughly between different beverages to prevent flavour transfer.

Does the 10 year guarantee cover chips or cracks?

Le Creuset's 10 year guarantee covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. Chips or cracks from dropping or accidental damage aren't covered by the manufacturer's warranty. However, our own Half-Price Replacement guarantee covers accidental damage for 2 years from purchase.

How do I remove tea stains from the interior?

Soak the teapot in a solution of bicarbonate of soda and warm water (1-2 tablespoons per litre) for 15-20 minutes, then wash as normal. For persistent stains, you can use a denture cleaning tablet dissolved in warm water. Avoid bleach or harsh abrasives that could damage the glaze.
