What Customers Ask About Le Creuset Petite Casserole Juniper
Can I use this in the oven and microwave?
Yes, this petite casserole is safe for oven use up to 260°C and can be used in the microwave. It's also suitable under the grill, provided you maintain at least 6.5cm clearance between the heat source and the lid. The stoneware is thermoresistant from -23°C to +260°C, so it handles the full range of cooking temperatures.
What size portions does this serve?
With a 0.25L capacity, this petite casserole is designed for individual portions or small servings. It's ideal for single-serve dishes like individual gratins or pasta portions, dips for sharing, condiments at the table, or small-plate style sides. The dimensions are 13.8cm length x 10.6cm width x 8.1cm height, so you can measure your intended contents to verify the fit.
Is this dishwasher safe?
Yes, Le Creuset stoneware is dishwasher safe and can go through a full cycle. The glazed surface is scratch resistant, so it maintains its appearance through regular dishwasher use. You can also wash by hand in warm, soapy water if preferred - for stuck-on food, soak in warm soapy water for 15-20 minutes before washing.
Can I put this in the freezer?
Yes, this stoneware is freezer compatible and thermoresistant down to -23°C. When using frozen contents, place the dish in a cold oven and allow both to heat up together rather than placing it directly into a preheated oven. This prevents thermal shock and ensures safe, even heating.
What is the petite casserole best used for?
This versatile piece excels at cooking and serving individual portions of gratins, pasta dishes, or baked eggs. It's equally useful for heating small amounts of sauce, serving dips and condiments at the table, presenting nibbles at gatherings, or storing small quantities in the fridge or freezer. The lid makes it particularly useful for keeping contents fresh or splash-free when microwaving.
Comparing Your Options
Stoneware vs Cast Iron
Le Creuset's stoneware is lighter than their cast iron (this petite casserole weighs just 420g versus around 2kg for a comparable cast iron piece) and can go directly from freezer to oven - something cast iron cannot safely do. Stoneware is also microwave safe, whilst cast iron is not. Both materials maintain even temperatures and are dishwasher safe, but cast iron offers superior heat retention for stovetop-to-oven cooking. If you're primarily using the piece for serving, reheating, or baking without stovetop use, stoneware provides the functionality with easier handling.

Care & Use Instructions
Before first use: Remove all labels and packaging, then wash in warm, soapy water. Rinse and dry thoroughly before use.
Cooking guidelines: Always use oven gloves when handling hot items. When using under the grill, maintain at least 6.5cm clearance between the heat source and the top of the casserole. If cooking from frozen, place in a cold oven and heat both together - never put a frozen dish into a preheated oven. When heating room-temperature contents, don't preheat your oven above 205°C. If adding liquid to a hot dish, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes first.
Cleaning: Allow the casserole to cool before cleaning. Wipe away any food residue, or for stuck-on food, soak in warm soapy water for 15-20 minutes before washing. Wash by hand or place in the dishwasher for a full cycle.
Storage: Suitable for freezer storage. The stoneware can go directly from freezer to a cold oven for reheating.
