Sintra Discounts, New Le Creuset & Arianna Huffington on Health
I was listening to Arianna Huffington being interviewed, the other day, who, until last week, I was vaguely aware of as the woman behind “The Huffington Post”* and not much else. And she had some very interesting and, I thought, sharp observations and opinions on life.
There are two that I picked up on. The first one is about forgiveness, and the example she uses is both in a personal example in her divorce, and she also draws on more general parallels in this challenging area of our lives. She talks about giving up our grudges and resentments and says that it’s so interesting to look at the science of forgiveness. Apparently, when we forgive, our stress levels go down, and even our cholesterol levels are reduced. The connection between forgiveness and our physical and mental health is enormous.
She adds that that is why she is so against “Cancel Culture”. Which, she says, is an attitude that gives up on forgiveness, gives up on redemption, and doesn’t give people the chance to learn from mistakes, and therefore, doesn’t allow them the opportunity to evolve and grow, which after all is, what life is all about! YES!
And the second point is when she is talking about her “burn out” that happened back in 2007, when she collapsed with exhaustion. Asked what changes this wrought, she said she changed five critical behaviours in her life, which were the ones that affected her health, both physical and mental and are common to us all.
They are: Sleep, Food (for example can we reduce ultra processed foods and sugar), Exercise, Stress Management and, lastly, Connection (connection to ourselves and connection with each other). She says that these 5 behaviours are more critical to our health than the genes we are born with or medical care. To be clear she isn’t dismissing medical care or the genes we are born with (one is necessary on occasion, the other we’re stuck with), but she is saying that, on balance, we have a lot more control over our health than we give ourselves credit for.
Interesting woman. If you want to know more the interview is here. It’s quite long but the relevant parts are at 23:00 (ish) and 45:01.
*Back in 2005, Arianna Huffington started The Huffington Post – growing it from a small blog to a global news powerhouse that mixes serious journalism with celebrity blogs and lifestyle content. It took off like a rocket, got snapped up by the other “AOL” (America Online) in 2011, and is still successfully covering everything from politics to pop culture on both sides of the Atlantic.
Now to product.
Earlier this year Dexam brought out two new colours in their Sintra range of partially coloured, glazed terracotta.
Both are beautiful but one of them, “Duck Egg”, is really rather mouth-wateringly gorgeous!
This is what I said about it on us arrival with us then.
Dexam have now added two lovely and subtle colours, “Stone” and a gorgeous “Duck Egg Blue”. Both contrast very attractively against the terracotta and come in the form of a
- Jug, a generous 3 litre, exquisitely shaped vessel that is crying out to be filled with Sangria, wine, water, or just flowers.
- Oil Drizzler, A really pretty little jug with a cork lid. £6.95 (ridiculously cheap!)
- a Wine Cooler (doubles as a Utensil Pot),
- Two sizes of Tapas Dishes.
- An Olive Dish, with room for cocktail sticks, spent olive stones, and olives!
- Mango Wood Salad Bowl £35.00 and matching Salad Servers £15.95.
- And a much asked for Bread Basket £8.95 in both colours.
I added that it is “A really lovely range that is both stylish and somehow warm and comfortable” and I don’t think I need to say any more. It is still just that.
This weekend you can buy 2 or more pieces in any of the 5 colours at 20% off.

LE CREUSET NEW LINES
For the Le Creuset fans out there, from Monday morning on our website we’ll be featuring their new campaign including several interesting lines that might pique your curiosity. At the risk of exceeding my ‘Le Creuset Quota’ for the month, I might even talk in more detail about them in next week’s newsletter.
That’s it for this week.
I trust you have a pleasant and peaceful weekend.
Warm regards
Andrew
