Irish Coffee Cocktail
Irish coffee is a cocktail of warm coffee with a shot of Irish whiskey, topped with fresh cream or whipped cream. The modern version was invented in the 1950’s in Ireland.
Ingredients
- 170 ml hot coffee
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 45 ml Irish whiskey
- Sweetened whipped cream.
Sweetened whipped cream
- 235 ml heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Method
- Make the coffee, using your favorite method.
- Make the whipped cream recipe.
- Add the coffee to a glass or Irish coffee mug, leaving about an inch at the top for cream. Stir in the sugar and whiskey until the sugar dissolves.
- Gently float the whipped cream on top using the back of a spoon.
Whipped cream recipe
- Place a bowl in the freezer to chill for a few minutes.
- Combine the cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract in the chilled bowl.
- With a large whisk, whip the cream by moving the whisk back and forth quickly (try to whisk in a line instead of a circular motion). Whip to your desired thickness is reached. You can use a looser cream for more of a “drizzle”, or a stiffer whipped cream for the traditional Cool Whip style texture.
